Default Tunnel between Dwarfton and surface

It adds absolutely nothing to have to keep walking through the ten or so levels between dwarftown and the surface throughout the course of the entire game. By the time you can cross the animated forest or get through the dwarven halls, this task is totally trivial. I would go so far as to say that it is essentially impossible to die on those ten levels by the time you have reached that point in the game. Therefore, there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to skip those levels by the time you have completed the second quest.

I think completing that second quest should cause a tunnel that connects directly to the surface to appear.

    Reactions?

I really like this idea. Having it attached to one of the Thrundarr quests is thematically appropriate. You could even just put an extra up stairs in the Ogre Cave or something.

I'm trying to think of a nice way that it would be also accessible to CKs. Maybe speaking to Kherab would also reveal it? (uSe ThIs SeCrEt TuNnEl tO sNeAk InTo ThE hOmE oF mY mOrTaL eNeMy). There would be an interesting high-risk option of skipping the entire early CoC if you can get to Kherab early...

    You have my vote.

Honestly, there was a suggestion of waypoints raised in a thread recently. Might as well go that route. Corruption is not an issue nowadays anyway.

BTW what was the point in the shortcut level S:*? This feature cuts nothing for me. Maybe it can be reworked into an actual shortcut somehow.

Totally got sniped by a gorgon in the big room once with level ~20 character that was going big places. Not that your idea isn't great. Upstairs in the Ogre Cave would be a nice feature.

Don't care. I don't walk a lot between DT and surface. Also where would you want it to be (location in wilderness i mean)?

Up near the Mad Minstrel's glade, maybe?

So, on a related note, how do you all feel about waypoints? I believe jellyslayer has already mentioned that he approved in a different topic.

I guess my point here is that if you buy this argument, that backtracking in this particular instance is a needless hassle, you can sort of generalize it to include placing waypoints.

Jelly mentioned putting one in Terinyo, the HMV, Dwarftown, and the Casino. I personally would probably place more, but I think the implementation he suggested would be totally reasonable.
