    Default Wish advice post ToEF

I kept a RoDS in my backpack while doing the ToEF, just in case my only fireproof blanket burned. It didn't, so now I have a wish to use before the dive to the bottom of the CoC. Not sure what to use it for though. I'm a L30 grey elven wizard, with 7LB, the robes of resistance, and a crystal tower shield. Main weapon is a mace of destruction. I saved Kelly for the SoCR, and intend to do a normal ending. Things that come to mind are:

    • Spellbooks of Acid Ball (currently the only ball spell I have, and only have ~500 castings)
    • Potions of strength (PoGA recipe requires one of these, and a PoUH which I have a few of)
    • Something to help with the elemental temples (I already have a blue dragon scale mail. So maybe phase daggers for the earth temple?)

Or I might save it until the casino, just in case that generates something that might change my mind. Am I overlooking any obvious options?

I think acid balls are way better than phase daggers for every conceivable purpose except maybe looting. Of course, with acid balls you can laugh your way through the rest of the game so there's really no more need to loot anything.

Or you could save it in case something important gets destroyed later, or if you want to roll the dice try scrolls of education.

Find Weakness is always an option. Girdles of Giant Strength and Bracers of Regeneration/Resistance are useful too.

One of the things I like to wish for in a magic user is potions of potential mana so I can easily get uber pp, or just wish for willpower, so I can reach the next ball spell diameter faster. why don't you give the library a try? Guaranteed every spellbook, no need to waste a wish on acid ball then.

IIRC wishing for potions of strength gives you only 2. Quite a meager result, 2 PoGA's won't make that big of a difference.
Library will give you all the ball spells you'll ever need, 500 in Acid Ball is already more than enough for a regular ending. You will of course need 100 Climbing skill for the library.
Girdle of giant strength is one of my personal favourites, although they can get destroyed. Rings of regeneration are very nice too.
If there's nothing you're in desperate need of, you can save the wish in case an emergency comes up.

Thanks all. Library is tempting, I've never been there in any version of Adom. But I feel like I just want to do a nice simple dive to D50, and hopefully get my first win on the Steam release.

The casino didn't have anything interesting, apart from some lightning ball books. I'm now clearing a greater vault of giants on the level below which has produced a phase dagger, so I can remove that from the list. I'm surprised that it isn't as effective as my sword of sharpness against the giants.

I didn't realise that a wish would only give 2 potions of strength, that's disappointing. Leaning towards acid ball spellbooks, but I guess I might as well wait until I run out of castings first...

Library makes wizard life much easier. When I play wizards I go there as soon as I hit lvl 18 by raising climbing with Yergilius.) For other casters I would do it too but I need magic missile there.

Probably only thing that would help is dig two square tunnel, use wand of door creation to make closet and then wish for emperor molochs. You should cast invisibility on molochs and slow monster on yourself for extra xp.

Otherwise after library there isn't much to wish for normal ending so I would probably save it until lvl 50 and wish for speed. Other option are magical writing sets to make scrolls of magic maping to simplify CoC/last minotaur maze levels as you could map earlier with bookcasted magic map and create closet around stairs for regenerating mana. Or amulet of life saving to prevents only two ways how wizard could die: suicides with magic missile and strength of atlas.

Other suggestions are quite bad for mage as they are completely unnecessary after early game, likely when he collects 20 spenseweeds. You should completely ignore regeneration items and go for extra dv if there is choice. When you acid ball anything remotely dangerous you will rarely lose hp and if you do then you will cast heal once per 5 turns so it translates just to drinking 2-3 potions of ultra healing.

For girdle of strength again you don't need it for carry capacity as you have SoA and you don't need it to increase damage as you kill everything remotely challenging with acid ball.

Also what you are probably overlooking is stash mace of destruction and get sword of nonnak and water orb for bigger radius.

Unless the monster has colossal PV (or is undead/daemon, due to the particular way that phase daggers calculate damage), phase dagger damage is quite pitiful.

Acid ball is always a good choice for casters, especially if you have no intention of going to the library. No harm in saving the wish for a bit, I suppose, if you already have castings of acid and now lightning ball.

Picking up on a point from the above post, if you've found nothing better to do with the wish by the time you reach D:50, you could wish for potions of boost willpower. With 3-4 blessed potions, your Wi should be approaching 99, at least for a little while, so you can use your lightning/acid ball spells to nuke a third of the map at a time. They wear out pretty quick, so make use of Farsight/Teleport to position yourself.
Hoping to win with every class, doomed. Archer, Barbarian, Bard, Beastfighter, Druid, Elementalist, Farmer, Fighter, Monk, and ULE Priest down.

Pretty much on point there, but if I remember correctly, the invisibility xp gain was nerfed a while back and greater molochs dig into walls making it a risky tactic still. I also agree about the sword of nonnak, but if you are trying to conserve pp against easy enemies, switch back to the mace while meleeing.

    - check Casino. there is no real danger to reach it and in addition to all loot, it should have ~10 spellbooks.
    - spells ignore PV already [at least i understand so], so phase dagger on wizard is complete waste
