    Default Hurtling monk with AoME and Fire+Water orbs

    Candle born hurtlink monk lame_str.
    Got Heir [8,3] robes of defence.
    Got eternium dagger of lightning. in UD2. kept using it up to level 16 or smth.
    Found Whirlwind on mountain village shop. bought it.
    On lvl 15 cleared Pyramid, afterwards graveyard.
    Got Rolf's Saviour for the dwarf's quest
    Cleared darkforge. eternium spear + Rolf's Shiled = nice.
    Cleared everything in ice queen domain and nearby.
    in great tension rooms with red dragons found silver key and Trusted one.
    Got crowned with Shirt of the Saints.
    Cleaned up Water temple. Poor snake was killed with just stones, thanks to 18-th level monks spped, and 13th level infinite rocks (+ master packager + beast of burden).
    Cleaned up Fire party. ACW fell fater 4 sling bullets of *insect* killing. Alertness 100 helps alot.
    By that time he was already killing machine.
    dived into Minotaur maze on lvl 25, went back on lvl 30, tired of pointless wandering.
    Spent some time trying to find teleport control. Sipped all the darkforge pools (11 of them). No luck.
    Went back to Maze with 20k exp to lvl 31.
    Found minutaur emperor. Killed with wand of fireballs.
    The only downside are some corruptions because, y;now maze corruption.
    Emperor dropped big axe and hammer of gods. 5(!) PoCC, 4 PoGA.
    Plan was to eat emperor in the wild, go to unicorn, clean corruption.
    At that time i had 8 PoCC in total, lakes of blessed water, and almost clean game finisher.
    But you never ever should be careless with this game.
    When i just decided to drink my PoGA, i saw.. 38 potions of poision..
    Yeah. you guessed right. all the PoCC due to poison hands became poison.
    Well, not a big deal really. I could manage this game even without it.
    Went to one of the caves R6. With minotaur axe most cruel guys felt after 1 hit.
    all of them. But not that ancient red dragon.
    But i was not killed by hit. And nor by poison.
    Poor guy who cleared fire temple got burned to death by usual dranons' fire.

    How's that about stupid death?

    How low were you before the turn that you died? Or was it one of those times where you weren't worried at all and you just kept hitting attack and then you realized you were dead?

    I guess he got punched in melee several times, which is what took the greatest chunk of his HP and then finished off with a random fire breath.
    Ancient red dragons are the most dangerous of all dragons, they hit the hardest.
    Plus, he is in a vault and the vault variety have some extra levels, especially in high DL places like R6.
    At 300 HP and 30 PV, this YASD isn't really that surprising all things considered.

    It's possible it was the breath alone. I've seen ancient dragons deal over 500 damage on breath attack if you have no resistance at all. Mingo only had 1 fire resist, no intrinsic. I don't know how big of damage you could expect from that, but 100 or so doesn't seem out of line to me.

    [edit]R6 is crumbling cave, so DL is definitely an issue too. The dragons are probably comparable strength to what you'd expect from a D:40+ vault, so yeah, they could easily wipe a 300 HP character from full if they get a run of crits or something.

    This indicates double resistance, one intrinsic, one from a single item.
    I'm pretty sure that since it was melee range, the dragon landed a good number of crits first and then breathed fire.
    Even extremely and very experienced giant red wyrms don't pose an elemental threat to PCs with 2 resistance sources.
    However if you're at single digit HP, it's a different story.
    Another thing is the dragon could have blind raged and got extra attacks, that's always deadly when such monsters are involved.

    Yeah, ancient dragons and wyrms are really something to not take lightly (Especially if in a greater vault) They hit like a truck in melee range, especially with critical hits, I almost lost my last game winner to a double critical hit from a great red wyrm in a greater dragon vault. Lost a couple of very late game PC's as well to not taking such vaults seriously, learned the hard way to never spam melee attack a dragon vault, no matter how strong you are :P

    I don't know how many fire resists did i have.
    I ate ancient red dragons, red dragons, red dragon babies, fire drakes, fire bugs, fire lizards.. So should have a few.
    But i haven't any issues in ToEF.

    Before last hit i had 90HP or so.
    And average hit i got from that dragon was ~20-40.
    That guy was critically damaged for several turns.
    And plan was to drink healing stuff or pray just after this turn.
    I'm 99% percent sure it was several criticals in a row + extremely unlucky fire breath.
    Was too frustrated to actually take a look at messages.
