Thread: RoDS and occupied tiles. Spoiler warning?

Default RoDS and occupied tiles. Spoiler warning?

Not sure if this is super secret tech, considered scummy, or just not intended. I tried searching for past discussions on this but couldn't find anything on the forums, wiki, or old guidebooks.

Besides this situation I imagine there are only a few other spots in the game where you would want to do as it's quite an expensive way to get rid of someone.

It's known among a few people in the roguelike discord channel. I had never heard of it before I joined the discord channel. Things I learned about it : Does not work on andor drakon, other than that it works on a surprising amount of npcs you would not expect it to work on. I don't think it works on khelevaster?

Does it count as killing him? ... does it count as stealing his stuff?

Nope, nope. It's as if he got killed by a monster, which is what happened.

Do you want this to get fixed? Does the creator want this to get fixed? Is it intentional? I dunno the answer to any of these.

It is obviously a gamey trick, but in the same time it's awesome as fuck.

If that trick doesn't work on @ndor then it kind of hints at it being intentional, but only the creator knows.

e: Mayhaps the creator wants to insert a few gamey tactics in the game? We, the players will never know. Fun stuff.

Definitely an intentional effect. Certain unique monsters are immune to djinni strangling (all orb guardians, Andor, Nonnak), but a lot are not. I'm surprised it works on Casino shopkeeper.

I don't know that I've ever used this intentionally ingame before. There's a few obscure challenge games where I've seen it used though.
Hoping to win with every class, doomed. Archer, Barbarian, Bard, Beastfighter, Druid, Elementalist, Farmer, Fighter, Monk, and ULE Priest down.

Huh, this would be really good in carbon fiber man to kill Eternal guardian. Never thought of that before.

It's pretty cheap but still quite interesting. I'd say that shopkeepers should be immune to that stuff, more so than Nonnak to be sure, that guy isn't really special besides being unique and a quest target.

It is an obscure but known feature, and it is not cheap. It is more like a funny detail, an easter egg with hardly any practical use.

    - The key NPC's like orb guardians / AD are immune (not sure about the EG)
    - You get no xp. So using it to kill tough monsters that are worth a lot of xp is pointless. If the point is to rob the casino, well there are far easier ways to do it. Grab stuff, anger shopkeep and teleport out of there.
    - It means you sort-of-waste a wish. Of course you still get a wish, but the great power of a RoDS is that it can be used at whatever moment you need it. If you are forced to use the wish right now, you lose that power.
You steal a scroll labelled HITME. The orc hits you.

There are far weaker monsters that open or smash doors on a regular basis. I would say the same should be done with djinnis and/or shopkeepers when they run out of space.
