Is a precrowning still available? If so, go for it. The crowning is still available later.

ADOM Guides - whatever you wanted to know about playing a certain class, but have been afraid to ask!
Check out my youtube channel to see my ADOM videos, including a completed playthrough of the game. I try to give instructions, so if you want to see some place you haven't been before and get some hints on how to deal with it, this might help! There's also some other games featured there that you might find interesting.
With precrown you can surely get much better artifacts.
Blessed status would of course help, dunno how much. I myself always crown myself over precrown. That might be little bit stupid/nooby but Im always in rush and I do not want to waste time for horrible amounts of gold/herbs/lifesacs for crown after precrown. Do the one which could possible give the best results.
Being blessed has negligible use. The main draw of a precrown is that the crowning is still available later.
Elementalist actually have a 50% chance to get a decent artifact (Brannalbin's, Iron Crown of Havlor, ring of immunity) and a 50% chance to get crap (staves, Nature's Friend). A precrowning has about the same odds.
(Actually, staff of the archmagi might not be too terrible for a spellcaster. Iron Crown is definitely more valuable though.)

I'm playing as often as I can for as long as I can, but it's going to be another few days yet.
Update:
After the precrowning, I went down to D11, and I felt threatened. I wasn't sure what kind of monster it would be. Then when every turn of the first 5 I heard a distant wind, I had an inkling. Thankfully I had that ring of invisibility from the shop. Guess what it was? A room full of lightning vortices. Unfortunately they were also between me and the stairs. Every time you want to take stairs (until we get a source of digging) you have to invisibly sneak through that room. Awesome. I've left the doors to it closed, I think. There was also an undead vault where I did the usual pickpocket everything and kill it. I also left the invis off so I could scum shield marks while pickpocketing.
D12:
This had both down staircases - which I'll get to later. It also had a mixed tension room. In that mixed tension room was a dark elven priestess. Apparently she was both a) wealthy and b) either extremely fashion-conscious or not too bright. In her pocket, rather than adorning her arm, were Bracers of War. So, now I have serpent's bite and bracers of war. It's really too bad I train weapon skills like a caster. I went down one stair case (the eastern one) and found the animated forest. Hoping for a shambling mound in the dwarven halls, I put on my invis ring and descended. Only path I could go led me to mixed tension, with a gorgon. None of them could see invis, and failed to notice the collapsing walls, so I snuck back out, locked the door, and went to the animated forest.
D13(The forest)
I angered one tree accidentally, named it HostileTree. Say hello if you see it. I got to D:14 otherwise uneventfully.
D14 had a vault of undead with an ant hole in it. I cleaned it out (shield marks and pickpocket, etc) but still no shambling mound. I popped my head up to DH2 to see if there was one in sight but didn't see one and didn't really want to risk anything.
I saved at Thrundarr - still no quests completed. I can keep going and try for the quest, or call it now. If we call it now I'll go ahead and provide the rest of my notes about the game.
Status update for Mission 2
Precrowned with Serpent's Bite
Pickpocketed Bracers of War
Purchased ring of invisibility
Purchased upgraded shield(+7 +2), got shields to 5
~36 uncursed stomafillia herbs in inventory
Level 14
Installed Poison Resist
Installed Acid Resist
25 Wi/Dx/To from herbs.
No Thrundarr quests done - he wants a shambling mound.
I'm ready to finish it unless my team wants me to keep trying to do Thrundarr quests - which would require me to find a shambling mound. My save is currently at Thrundarr ready to go, so I can mark it done as soon as they give me the ok to ignore the quests for the rest of the game.
No idea of their status.
