Ok I generated my healer. No time to play tonight, but here's the VLG. I'm Cup, so should be really fast leveling as a hurthling - making doing anything but SMC a tricky proposition - not sure how I'm going to get rocks.

What am I allowed to wear and still true berserk?

Name: Jharod-Lite Race: male Hurthling Class: Healer
Eye color: green Hair color: blonde Complexion: tanned
    Height: 2'11" Weight: 74 pounds

    YOUR HISTORY:
Your parents belong to the middle class. They are average people
living in average quarters. Your father is a craftsman of mediocre talent.
In your childhood you were fascinated by your environment and the
everchanging wonders of the world. You were a very curious and adventurous
     child.
As a youth you spent a lot of time in the wilds exploring woods and
generally enjoying your freedom. You had a lot of fun and learned to value
     the treasures of nature.
As a young adult you left your home because of trouble with your
parents. They opposed your plans for the future without understanding your
wishes. Thus you decided to live on your own. You wandered through the
country for many years, growing older and wiser and learning many things.
You decided to become a Healer.

True-berserk is kinda risky for a hurthling healer, just go berserk status while wearing all your gear, you still get a nice to hit and to dmg bonus. I myself almost never go berserk unless in a bad situation, if anything i just use very aggressive. the DV difference between the two is huge without tactics, or being born under the sword. Come on harwin, make it to HMV and join Cortain we already have two deaths =(
To this day I have not once scummed in ADOM.
Probably why I dont have a win.

My current gear offers basically nothing in protection - that's why I'm asking about true berserk. If it's a bonus with almost no penalty...

Need to take off clothes and cloak. Rings and bracers are allowed, at any rate.

SMC first, wait some turns, then finding rocks from VD or PC. VD: Just loiter about waiting for rockthrowers. PC:2, make use of ants. You can run in circles around a few ants. Grabbing one or two piles of rocks may be enough. With testing chars I did not try true berserking, which may in fact give you a fighting chance in the UD. So direct smc can be good.

True berserk is crucial. He does not have any armor. You can keep the bracers on. Shields are allowed to, as are rings and missile weapons and tools and amulets.

I always did direct SMC in my tests. True berserk is that powerful. Let's hope for another To increase, which unlocks Steel Skin.

Entered the Drakalor Chain, checked my character.
Stopped by Terinyo to divest myself of these bothersome clothes and let it all hang out.
Picked up some large rations and the puppy quest. I specifically did NOT pick up either the VD or DD quests, leaving that for someone to decide much later.

Headed to SMC - got ambushed twice along the way - I'm worried my ring may be a ring of doom, unless burdened status really increases the chance of encounters.
Failed to flee both times, barely got out - I think it's a bad idea for me to head to the PC now - that ring really could be a problem - I'll try to avoid darkness as well until I find out.

    SMC:
    First kill - Skeleton
    Blanket - 80 paces

Goblin Rockthrower gives me 10 stacking rocks.

Avoid a wildcat for now - I may have to kill it, but hopefully not.

Crap, level 5 already... still no stairs.
I retreat from a room full of monsters and hope that the stairs aren't behind it.

Hallelujah! The stairs are behind the secret door I chose not to explore earlier. Nothing too bad in the room, it seems.
More coming from behind despite the locked door - make a somewhat risky choice to dive for the stairs, 4 monsters following.

I kill the last one and he is carrying.... the blanket!
Ok, I'm on UD:1, level 6, 16/71 HP, going to finish this later.

    Edit Update:
Just in case I forget right when I start, I load it back up to get to full health:
    On the level: Tension, Shop
Strangely, the shop restocks while I'm healing.
Mimic enters (shop must be to that side) and I'm forced to melee it. I drink my other potion of healing (still have extra healing and prayers) to get to full before engaging, in case it paralyzes. I manage to kill it without getting paralyzed and quit with 68/71, ready to explore the UD.

Hope you 's'aved and not 'q'uit....hehe.

Otherwise, nice going. Personally, if I were to decide between safety and killing a cat, that cat is history.

He was in a side room, which I wasn't sure I wanted to explore yet. But yes I probably should have killed him so I could look in it.

Our Pally is rolled. Dragon starsign didn't help much as he has still low To.

    St: 11, Le: 15, Wi: 8, Dx: 14, To: 9, Ch: 10, Ap: 15, Ma: 16, Pe: 17
    Hp: 13.
    DV/PV: 13/6

I took long stride as starting talent.
Seems pretty fragile, gotta be careful with this one. I think the best strategy is to rush trough SMC immediately. We can come back to take herbalism when doing the Portal quest. Athletics should be enough to boost our toughness.

Trap detection is crucial. I suggest we should try to get pickpocketing early. Our paladin is L. Luring Tywat, goodwives and children is easy. However lacking ranged attack I dont feel comfortable figting assassins and co at 'holeinthewall'. There is always a chance that I will screw things up.

Getting into UD:1 is another problem. If the stairs are near eachother it's gonna be easy, otherwise...

    Wish me luck.
/edit: Took one 'However' out as I kept repeating myself

Don't be a sissy. If you don't waste time getting levels elsewhere (for instance to get the wretched and useless "Pick Pockets" travesty I will not sully myself to call skill), you should have enough time.
