Thats how I also interpreted it early on and comparing to other computer game that would make sense.
The difference here is that this game allows teleporting others as well.

Yep you can use it to target an adjacent monster to get them away, might be resisted though. Has it's uses like with the dwarven smith so you can get him off the level and use his smithy for free.

Don't worry we've all had characters that died horrible stupid deaths. And many more will perish. But over time, we repeat those mistakes less and less, and find new ones to make.

lol, the random deaths and stupid mistakes are so common there is an entire forum for them. It is best to laugh before you start to cry. Hell, I've been playing since 97 and I lost a promising character to a bouncing lighting bolt just yesterday. Some people never learn I guess.
