"You hear a horrible squeak!" - new creature discovered?

I've entered a dark room on UD 1 and was attacked. Used wand of light and got the message

Suddenly it seems to get brighter. You hear a horrible squeak!

And suddenly, there was no one attacking me. I searched the rest of the room and nobody else tried to attack me.

Has anybody experienced it too? Googling yields no results.

Does it mean there is a creature in ADOM 1.2 that can live only in darkness?
