    Default Power surge rng

    Does power surge generate entirely random from the artifact pool?

    I feel like getting "weak" artifacts from early and mid-game power surges (silver key, cats claw, sling and scorched spear).
    The more powerful have been lategame (after casino).
    On the other hand my sample size is very small and they are still very rare.

    I have a vague memory of getting preserver in ud once but thats about it.

    Sure silver key in ud can be a real life saver for the early game but I've had it as my two recent ones and it does loose its value rather soon.
    One scorched drop was for a duellist...

    Maybe its that quite a few of the artifacts are a bit crappy and the chances of getting a decent one is slim.

    What artifacts can be generated depends on the level's DL. So, not as much variety is possible at low DLs, although there are some good low-DL artifacts (preserver, skullcrusher, ironfist, ...).

    Ahh so the artifacts also have individual DL, that probably explains it, thanks.

    UD has a high DL which helps.

    The "pulsing power" surge seems to be entirally random FWIW, i got one in I think UD2 and it had farslayer which is a high DL weapon afaik.

    Pulsing power usually scales the difficulty by having a lot of highly experienced monsters.
    All random artifacts are drawn from the initial pool of 24 that is defined upon char creation, that includes surges.

    is it possible to go past 24? What happens in that scenario? They dont' get generated?

    They don't. You get a bunch of high-level, high metal items with affixes instead.
    Tested by generating 24 random artifacts and then throwing potion of uselessness on D49.
