Drop x amount of item?

So I'm playing again after a lengthy hiatus, R69 being my previous version. And it seems that item dropping has been changed, I can't find out how to drop 1 out of my 7 stack of large rations. 'd' just drops them all. Hate to make a thread for something so trivial but I simply can't figure it out. Some help?

If you hold shift, and then choose the letter of the item stack you want to split, that should allow you to choose the number you want to drop.

Seems a little over-complicated, but I suppose it's faster in the long run? :/
