Is the big room an effective place to grind for a RoDS/AOLS?

It's too low DL for RoDS to generate. You would need to read a scroll of danger there first (non-blessed if it's on D:6). Putrid:2 would be an alternative if you don't have a scroll of danger.

There are rare cases I believe where the big room is generated on D:8.
Aside from that, I'd use the first or second cavernous levels of the TotHK.
If you don't mind additional grind, FGJC is a nice place to get a random wand of wishing.

If all you want is the single wish to save khelavaster, the most effective method I know about is:

- buy / steal a crapton of potions in the Borderland Settlement
- get the Scythe of Corruption (not always possible pre-khelavaster)
- convert your potions into Raw Chaos (IIRC the elemental gauntlets reduce corruption)
- Dip them into each other one by one on D:1. You can dip them one at a time by equipping the first potion in your melee weapon slot.
- Keep the potions of exchange, then start dipping stacks of rings in an appropriate place.

It generates a heap of booze and a few potions of gain attributes as a by-product. Of course the drawback is that you might gain some corruptions. It goes without saying that you only resort to this method once you exhausted your pools.
