Weird Heir Gift Occurence

Hey Folks,
Wondering if anyone has ever experienced this. On one day I was getting an heir gift after only selecting Charming...Thus, skipping Boon to Family. It happened more than once in that day (as I was rerolling, likely Dark Elf Bards). I'm wondering if this is one of things that is dependent on the date you are playing? It hasn't worked that way since. Unfortunately, I didn't write down the date, but it was a week or two ago.
