When you get pricked by the mad doctor, you lose a small amount of HP. Is it possible to die from this?

The exact message of death ray self with wand of wonder is:

Thrul, the gnomish wizard, drained his life away with a death ray.

That's the message with spell and wand of death too.

ADOM is still a new game to me but I've found a special way to die too, I think.

I was killed by Sraxx. I stood on his altar in a dungeon and attacked an orc when the orc suddenly yelled a prayer to his god and Sraxx burned me to ashes. (Lvl 12 Monk).

    A nice surprise.

    "19. Sacrificed by an NPC."

    Tsk tsk! ;)

Ma~ ma~... Be extra careful when dealing with altars. Humanoids may sacrifice you.

Question: Does it matter what alignment the altar is? I have a feeling that you never get sacrificed at lawful altar. Can anyone confirm?

I *think* the rules for monsters sacrificing you are the same as for you sacrificing monsters - lawfuls and neutrals can't kill anyone of the same alignment, but chaotics can.
You hit Andor Drakon, the ElDeR cHaOs GoD, and severely wound him.
The greater balor summons some help!
The ratling duelist disarms you. You drop your blessed Trident of the Red Rooster (+36, 6d12+18) [+12, +12]. It flies to the west.
Andor Drakon, the ElDeR cHaOs GoD, picks up the blessed Trident of the Red Rooster (+36, 6d12+18) [+12, +12].
Andor Drakon, the ElDeR cHaOs GoD, wields the blessed Trident of the Red Rooster (+36, 6d12+18) [+12, +12].

I *think* dopplegangers are different... they imitate your alignment, when sacrificing you. However, when you sacrifice them, they are always chaotic..

I can't manage to get the frog one. I'm trying it with a deaf female, sipping pools in Darkforge, and I got this twice:

A little frog jumps up out of the pool.
The frog stares at you intently for a few moments.
The frog jumps back into the pool.
