I'm mot gpomg to read through the 500 post already posted on this thread, but I must say this is the first time I see this after starting to read these forums.
That being said I have heard that TH is the best talent you can get. I might be a bit partial but I have to agree. I have played a lot of chars since I started again with adom and the TH really seems to make a lot more difference than the statistics of it would indicate. You guys have to know that I studu mathematics amd statistics at the university level so I'm not too easily convinced of random anything but here I'm pretty sure that the stats in GB are just wrong. With TH I seem to get a lot more of the usefull items than I get without it (played about ten dwarven barbarians with about half of them getting TH).
At this point I'm easily persuaded to put it all up to chance, but I still think the info in GB must be wrong. If someone has done some better research about this please point me to the correct page of this thread. Untill then I'll keep taking TH as one of my first talents since it really soes seem to make a hell lot of a difference.
Ps. I wasn't here when this thread got buried so no one can put any blame on me for keeping it alive![]()

Which proves you use your time more wisely than
those of us who did : )

Lucky you.

Facepalm.

To distill my original argument, I suggested that more
items aren't needed, and there are easier ways to get
'moar itemz' if you like.
> I'm pretty sure that the stats in GB are just wrong.
Oddly enough, they are right, but only in a way. In a
different way, they are, kinda misleading. TH does not
double the number of items you get, just increases the
items dropped by most mobs you kill.
> With TH I seem to get a lot more of the usefull items
This is natural, and not debated.

Best research was done by sir Twinge. He explained to
me once on IRC exactly what TH does. I have since
forgotten the specifics, but (if memory serves) they
factored out to about what we had figured out on our
own anyway: Look at your kill list, devide by 10.
That's how many of your items came from TH.
> I'll keep taking TH as one of my first talents
One of the constructive things that came from this
abomination of a thread, was a general consensus
that taking TH around exp. level 9 is optimal.

Neutral guy : Take TH if you know your guy is gonna live without three talents right at the beggining
Haven't won with : Druid, Priest, Elementalist, Weaponsmith, Ranger, Merchants, farmers, Necromancer,Thief
Currently trying : Entertaining girlfriend. Very, Very, VERY hard.
Just a silly online game
TH is only 10% increase?
▼ All their fault. ▼
No!
Normal killing gives about 10 items per 100 kills. With TH, you get about 10 extra items per 100 kills (that's why gut says divide your kill list by 10 to see how many TH-generated items you got). But that means a 100% increase (i.e. a doubling) of items generated by normal* monster drops, not 10%.
*i.e. excluding things like monsters from vaults that drop more items even without TH.
tl;dr: gut goes out of his way to phrase the sentence so that it gives the impression that TH sucks, but it rocks anyway.
Yeah, took me a long time to think of:
Look at your kill list, devide by 10. That's how many of your items came from TH.

Everything makes so much sense when you've not been awake for 2 days in a row. So it gives 10% increase when taking into account all monsters that can drop items... and 100% increase compared to the original 10% monster drop. Got it. TH rocks.
▼ All their fault. ▼
> So it gives 10% increase
To my knowledge, it never gives a 10% increase to anything.
I think the code divers quantified it to a 12.5% increased chance
of item drops for certain mobs, but there are other factors at
play, such as which mobs are eligible.
> when taking into account all monsters that can drop items...
No, not that either. Some mobs are guaranteed (or near gauranteed)
to drops items, and they are handled differently. Dead rats are great
for TH, dead blue dragons benefit you nothing.
> and 100% increase compared to the original 10% monster drop.
That is the closest to true part, but there are even problems with
that. I don't recall ever hearing about anyone quantifying the exact
base item drop for PC's, and even if they did, I would be surprised if
it were = among all r/c combos.
The most accurate way I have found to describe it is how I've
previously written it.
