    Default 2008 Creator's Day Contest Characters Thread

    Rules are simple.(needs someone with fluent english for editing )

    0. No scumming.
    1. One random character per contestant.
    2. 2nd july start - Creator's Day.(turn your computer's clock back if you're late)

    Sword Female Drakening Bard - latest ADOM-Sage.
    Really good starting skills.

    Gray pool on UD:3 - snakes, frog, ale, St training, -paralyzation.
    Blood red pool on PC:4 - teleport control(WOOOHOOO - i've already gotten one wand of teleportation!), see invis, snakes, more snakes, St training, someone misnaming me, frog(indeed, two golden balls atm), vipers!, memories of youth.
    D:1 to D:12 herbs, herbs, herbs. Ghost lord at first dwarven quest

    Darkforge(including Kherab), Dwarven Graveyard and ToHK cleared. Blup satisfied. All Dwarven quests completed.
    First Great Treasure grave - empreror Lich...
    Darkforge pools - dooming only once, various resistance changes(some !ofInsight needed ), various monsters, death ray resistance, +1 Pe, +1 St, -1 Le, -1 Dx, invisibility, lost see invisible, bulging cranium corruption.

    ToEF cleared. Only 10 blessed spenseweed and 6 arrows of dragon slaying spent.
    Water temple cleared. I'm heading straight to victory.
    Ring shop - 2x slaying, elememtal mastery.

    Casino shop: RoDS, Thunderstroke, various potions.

    One thing that i didn't knew: there is a moloch deep inside greater giant vault.
    Looks like i'm still just not experienced player after just a few months in ADoM.

    EDIT: Haha, she's already dead. I almost always play a class that starts with healing, or give myself Candle otherwise, and that was very problematic for me. Early poison problems (falling in a pit, Dark Elven Warrior) proved to be the death of me. Funny note btw, I kicked in every door I found straight away, and did not generate a single door trap, except for the one time I decided to kick it at an angle. That one had a dropping door. Random, eh? I guess I shouldn't have tried to make an immediate beeline for the carpenter to try to get healing, but meh. It was funny anywho.

    I got lucky The month was Candle, which is one of my favourite months for obvious reasons, and I rolled a male Hurthling Monk! Not a class I've ever played, but they share some of the awesomeness of beastfighters, so this should be fun. He was apparently seriously ill in his childhood.

    I'll keep him strained and armed for a while first, he can start tearing monsters apart with his bare hands when that strength is up to par.

    Started the game by getting the puppy quest, then going to Laweni-hotel. I immediately bit off more than I could chew and had to use up both my initial prayers when an assassin decided to poison me. Still, I lived, and went to the SMC. An undead tension room was generated next to the first stairs and I came close to death (2 HP). I found the downstairs, they were in an excellent position, but decided not to get the blanket because a cat was in the way.

    Then it was time for the puppy cave. This went smoothly, the ants fell easily and I finally found enough loot to get burdened and switch to spear-and-shield combo for some strength training. There was 'imminent danger' on the second level, an ettin, which was no trouble at all. Lee is currently standing next to the cute dog, which was generated next to the up-stairs. Next up, clearing the vault and bringing it back to the tiny girl.

    Well, I died.

    The vault turned out to be mixed. It had a baby black dragon in it which almost killed me, twice, so I decided to leave and do the UD instead. Everything went fine, until I encountered a jelly vault. My rocks ran out, I stupidly took on a gelatinous blob in melee, it died and a gray ooze took its place.

    I rolled a raven-born male human barbarian. Nothing too unusual for me, they're amongst my favourite classes though I practically never pick humans if get to choose. Oh, and a two-headed calf was born on the same day. I named him Conan, and chose long stride as first talent.

    Yay, dead already, just had to happen I guess, was being so lucky. Went to SMC at lvl 1, found an altar, converted it to L and checked status of items. Found a club of devastation 5d6+6, pretty awesome. Got the blanket, decided to go down the UD. No herbs, no altars, no shops, a couple of pools, nothing very interesting. Didn't dare to check HMV shop though, not sure if I could take the mimic. Went back to the PC looking for some herbs, nothing there. So I went back to the SMC to use the altar. A moment later an out-of-sight dark sage took me from 84 to -11 hp in a single turn.

    Generated a character born in the month of Salamander. Rolled a female Orcish Farmer.

    Completed .flg in separate post. See page 4.

    Personal Restrictions: No casino gold.

    Went for SMC to try and get blanket, almost died, ran away.
    Completed VD, obtained healing.
    Went for PC, river generated on PC:3.
    Dove to I:9 and back to get enough pockets to pick and, with the help of Miser, barely got the 3.5k necessary for detect traps from master thief. In the process, blink dogs were found. Waited for them to summon help, and killed a bunch to get a corpse for TCtrl.

    Ran into problems on D:9. Dwarftown was clearly on D:10 and there was a river on D:9. Not only that, the river was 5 spaces wide, and could only be crossed there. Desperate for literacy (being as it's crucial and all), it was crossed using 2 divine interventions.

    Thundarr quest resulted in a Rust Monster. Wand shop appeared on D:12. A wand of digging was generated, and i grabbed a wand of trap creation (4 charges) as well. Back on D:9, used wands to make a teleport-bridge.

    Headed back toward VD, used altar to get piety back to acceptable in case of emergency. PC to this point has been suffering some pretty bad luck with vorticies/breath attacks/fireball traps. Cloak of invisibility dropped in CoC, used that to go to SMC and find down stairs.

    Used herbs to buff Wi/To/Dex. Killed Rust Monster, got literacy, second random quest was a ratling archer, easily finished. In prepping for Ogre cave/Arena, took a short trip to surface for Pyramid and Graveyard. PC level at this point is only 14, but with a crucial cloak of invisibility. Snuck into Pyramid, killed Rehetep, snuck out. Similarly, nothing in graveyard sees invisible except Nonnak and Griff, so it was easy. Finished off Ogre Cave. Finished off arena quest.

    7LB on D:15! Fantastic. Dove for water temple at exp level 16.

    I had to switch to Moon Sickle on Berserker to finish off the temple, grab my first orb. Heading back to terinyo now that i have 7LB to finish off PC, hopefully get swimming. Went to altar, crowned self and forgot to put on AMW before crowning. Got useless cold immunity, Skullcrusher.

    7LB destroyed by failed teleport landing me next to an acid vortex. Cried. Felt like i lost the game.

    ID dive really produced nothing except some extra gold and water. Headed back to D:12 shop, where a wand of cold finally was generated. Was able to do ToTHK this way. With a RotHK, patched together the best melt/burnproof set of gear i could and resulted in 50/31 DV/PV. Finished ToEF using up an enormous number of healing/scroll charging resources.

    ACW dropped Executor, which is the first time i've seen him drop an artifact (aside from the orb of course).

    Dug up all graves on the way to casino. Nothing.

    Casino items were garbage. Artifact was Whirlwind, and only useful equipment out of it was a dragon scale mail and a ring of slaying. (Can't afford either yet, though). Still no 7LB.

    Cat lord almost killed me. I forgot i had changed from AMW to a dragon scale mail, and he critical'd me for over 250 damage in one round of attacks. Getting off of the noteleport level was rough, but with a few divine interventions and a !oEH, it was done. Charged up a wand of teleportation, lured the cat lord into a room, teleported to the door, and locked him in.

    Air temple was done without much trouble. Greater Giant Vault on D:42. Thank god. It contained 3 (whoa!) artifacts: thunderstroke (useless), long sting (useless), and robes of resistance. At least there's one decent artifact.

    Earth temple, as usual, is the easiest of the temples. No equipment destruction, ASB typically very easy.

    Greater Giant Vault again on D:45. This vault was the RNG giving back for all the crap it gave me during the whole game. Now i officially have no excuse to lose: Bracers of war, Ironfist, and Scorched Spear (not a bad artifact early game, but useless for me now). Also generated in the vault were TWO RoDS, one of which i used for blessed seven league bootss, the other i'm saving.

    That last vault pushed this character over the brink. BDC was a breeze, took him out on Berserker. I've lost characters to mana temple before, so it's still dangerous. Lured Nuurag Vaarn into corridor. Shot him up to critically injured with sling bullets while on berserker to minimize stat drain. Healed when necessary, etc, then stepped in to finish up with executor.

    Thought about going up to get some corruption removal, but the 2 SoCR i had was probably enough. Got to D:49 and realized i never got a PoU. Oh well. Doesn't matter. I messed up on D:50, accidentally opening the main room. I still tried to use the monster creation/doors ending, but i generated a named Great blue Wyrm on the square, was forced to waste time killing him, THEN generated a named great red Wyrm. Decided it was easier to just eliminate all sentinent creatures off the board. This PC took out balors/Fisty in melee without a problem. Returned to surface. Did unicorn quest to clear corruption, then left.

    And I have rolled... a Book-born female human druid. Named her Yuria... She's a 29-year-old blonde apparently - a bit old for me, but I'll roll with it. Never played a druid seriously so this should be interesting (and likely short). Silfir, I'll be putting your guide to the test here... Started out with Divine Wrath, Minor Punishment and a wooden shield [+3, +3] (if only I had a one-handed weapon!) with the following stats:

    Still alive! Cutpurse first kill, got pickpocketing, generated SMC at level 2, dove to PC6 to generate puppy, then dove to DD7 to generate druid. Will deal with both later... Cleared the upper levels of each dungeon, and found grey altar on PC3. Killed Hotzy and got to level 9. Rushed through SMC escaping barely to UD (got blanket too, woo). Rushed through those levels but food was a huge issue - ended up having to pray for satiation (and found a corpse a few steps later, grr). Mixed vault and gnoll vault yet to be tackled. Found large mithril shield and adamantium spear. Found herbs, including stable morgia patch, but the level is flooded with red worms. Also 2 altars and 2 pools. Sold junk at HMV and went to CoC for food, but D2 stairs are surrounded with water. Went and bought detect traps and killed Keethrax in melee (magic missile was taking too long - he kept healing). Got the druid rewards, which are bracers of toughness and some ring and some amulet. Could really do with the Frost Bolt to be honest... Current stats:

    I must say I hate druids. Weak and pathetic, with poor magic ability (I keep having to abuse Mana in tight spots because they have so little PP, and as you can imagine that ends up in a vicious circle) and far too slow at gaining weapon marks. I have found very few spellbooks, the only useful one being the glorious Darkness. Neutral animals are ANNOYING - especially since I can't effectively go for a precrown, and bloody worms are filling up my herb level. I saw a blink dog and it attacked a nearby monster and got killed before I could make it hostile! Still, doing okay for now - just need to get some more spells and build my toughness up more and I'll be rolling.

    EDIT 2 (2/7/08 - 23:42):

    Lured the vault denizens in the UD to the nearby altars and got me a precrown - Skullcrusher. Took a lot of patience but it should be worth it. Also found a tower crystal shield and some other okay gear. Still few spells though - only offensive spellbook left is magic missile. Going to try and reclaim the herb level and then maybe see about getting across that river in the CoC (got me a pick axe now, which might help).

    EDIT 3 (4/7/08 - 00:08):

    Got good stashes of all the nice herbs now, and stats close to max. Got to Dwarftown without incident, elder wants me to slay a big dog. Actually kinda troublesome since they all get themselves killed fighting monsters... Cleared pyramid and graveyard with ease - Skullcrusher all the way. Got some handy stuff from the graveyard, including frost bolt spellbook and ring of slaying. Really can't see anything stopping me now... Current stats:

    Spent aaaages hunting for a blink dog in the puppy cavern. First one attacked a nearby monster and got itself killed (bloody druids...) but eventually I pissed one off and slaughtered its summons for 3 corpses - quite enough for me. Got the teleport wand and got the dwarf rewards, but haven't gone deeper than Dwarftown yet. Mystic gave me a bloody PoGA and 2 training potions. Cleared DarkForge with ease, netting me a good white dragon scale mail and Wyrmlance - hurrah, something to slay the ACW with. Bombed through the High Kings tomb without incident. Going to complete the dwarven elder quests then do some pool-sipping for the old man. Tower is going to be an absolute breeze by the time I get round to it. Status:

    Numerous PoGAs have made their mark. Need more Mana though! 199 PP is pathetic for a caster when my HP is past 300! Shields are level 10, clubs level 9 and polearms level 6. Might train the last up before the ACW, but stun ray will probably make it safe regardless. Need some more fireproof equipment too.

    EDIT 5 (5/7/08 - 16:23):

    Just scummed DarkForge for an AoLS - was worried I wouldn't get one actually since there were very few pools generated. Lost a couple of points of dex and fire resistance (which is harder to acquire for bloody druids) and got a bit of aging, but worth it all of course. Now level 22, HP over 350 - I'm stupidly overpowered for this stage of the game.

    EDIT 6 (5/7/08 - 19:45):

    I saved Khelly, dove down to the wall of flames and cleared the Water Temple, then came back up for air and dropped into the Rift. Threat room of chaos knights yielded some nice armour, including empowered eternium plate mail. Threat room of giant slugs gave me acid immunity. Found me a red dragon corpse too, which is what I was most after. Not too many spellbooks of great use in the Library, but some decent xp at least. Almost got killed by an ancient white dragon actually - tried meleeing it with Skullcrusher and was brought down to 11 HP in one round (lucky it didn't hit more times in fact). Teleported away, healed, teleported back and one hit killed it with Wyrmlance. Tower was easy enough, though the ACW gave me some trouble before I stun rayed him. Wyrmlance made short work of him after that, and the rest of the placed was crushed or frozen. On my way out a fire giant dropped the ring of immunity - gee, thanks, just in time. Going to dive down to the casino and pick up the kitty ring now - really need to find a scroll of danger fast!

    EDIT 7 (5/7/08 - 22:55):

    Casino had nothing worth mentioning, but the kitty king was kind enouh to give me a nice ring. Cleared three lesser dragon vaults (2 blue, 1 red) and a greater vault of giants on D45. Got lots of goodies, and the latter contained BoW and black tome. A pit viper on the giant vault level dropped a scroll of danger - excellent... Killed the white unicorn but only got 3 PoGA from the black unicorn as reward. Fed the ratling - it's day 88 now, so just in time for the next Darknight. Not too many corruptions yet, with plenty of SoCR in my pack. Got the quickling tree requirements too. Will kill Keriax next then try and find a giant boar... Character is looking very solid now:

Converted back to neutrality with a whip of slaughtering and got crowned with Nature's Friend and shock immunity (both useless - bloody druids...) Dove back down the CoC and cleared Air and Earth temples - both easy, even though Yuglash decided to summon balors to the party. Killed my first greater moloch on D47. Off to do blue dragon caves and mana temple. 11 corruptions now - must be more speedy.

    And so ends the story of Conan, the barbarian. First I went and killed a beggar, generated the SMC, and then saved the carpenter. After that I decided to go through the Unremarkable dungeon. Everything was strolling nicely, until i sensed an imminent danger when I was on UD:4. I decided to turn back towards the downstairs which I had already found, but in that room a Werewolf lord was waiting for me. His wolves sprang out of nowhere and forced me into a corner. I fought the lesser wolves and werewolves valiantly, and cleared my way out of the corner. I started to run, trying to put as many wolves as possible between the lord and me, but soon he bypassed them with his amazing speed and then ripped me to pieces when my escape was blocked by wolves coming from the other end of the corridor.
