    Default Platinum Girdle

What constitutes a chaotic act? I know many of them, but I'm not sure of all of them.

    - Starting Neutral or Chaotic.
    - Attacking a panicked person
    - Attacking an indifferent person.

I'm not entirely sure they all count... Attacking non-hostiles isn't always chaotic, especially if you use a bolt wand. You can even rob a shop safely with Ventriloquism. Things I know can reduce your alignment:

    -Backstabbing
    -Attacking friendlies
-Killing lawfuls (even if they're attacking you)
-pickpocketing people that aren't directly attacking you
    -Druid quest
    -chaotic quests

Supposedly platinum also requires that you let no lawfuls die. That means save Khelly, be careful of the greater demon in dwarftown, teleport away dwarves in the arena, and don't let any blink dogs die. I imagine that the best shot at the girdle might be a dwarven mindcrafter - already have TCtrl and Detect Traps.

Hmm, how can the druid quest drop your alignment?

I also think that the starting alignment doesn't matter - cannot be completely sure of course as I've never gotten the girdle (who has?).

The druid quest draws your alignment towards N=. So if you are any flavour of L, you will be drawn closer to Chaos, whereas those already under the thrall of Andor are in fact brought forwards into light.

Just one of those awesome little touches that make ADOM such an incredible achievement for the Creator.

There is some debate about whether sacrificing gold to the chaotic gods is chaotic - people who try for the girdle normally start off C I believe, in order to allow druid quest, and open up thief guild membership.

How can you not let lawfuls die? Blink dogs always die on me before I get a chance to kill them. How could you ever protect a blink dog?

You can 'protect' them by turning the into writhing masses of primal chaos.

Is that really how people do it? Or is it simply like the cat quest and that you can't kill any lawful even if they are hostile to you?

Don't be lawful for as long as possible, as otherwise the blink dogs would be your allies, and easily kill themselves fighting your enemies. (I am not sure whether there exists any lawful method of protecting them. Throwing a potion of exchange or raw chaos at them is considered a chaotic act IIRC.)

If the blink dogs are your enemies, you can "protect" them permanently by turning them into something else (easy if you already have the Moon Sickle), or for a long enough time by confusing them (as a mindcrafter; they won't summon when confused). Probably you could also try to escape...
