are you sure you are hitting the shift key before you hit > ? you know you need to be on top of the cave you want to enter. that is, you need to be on it so you can't see it. then you should go to a different level if you did it right.

If using windows, check your keyboard and language settings. You need to make sure the key you are looking at which appears to be a > is actually sending a > shaped signal to ADOM.

If using a laptop, try just changing your keyboard settings to American keyboard, and load ADOM up again (worked for me ).
Otherwise, just play around with correct international settings until your Keyboard is speaking same language as ADOM...

Someone should mention typing "ADOM -r" at DOS command line as well. Apparently it will tell you what keys are doing which actions for your particular setup, and then you just need to go to notepad and bang all the keys until you find which ones are which.

If you are using Windows (say, Windows XP) then I suggest this. Go to Start > Run (or hit Win+R) and type osk there. OSK = On Screen Keyboard. There, you will see what button does what. Make sure you doublecheck the (small number of) settings in that keyboard, so that it would reflect yours! For instance, turn the display of numpad on. Play with it. Press the SHIFT button and see what happens!

What vogonpoet said... You need to set your keyboard layout to American. Not only that it will solve problems with ADOM, but with many other applications as well. Sadly it takes time to get used to. But it was not a problem for me.

The advices I gave you are not related to ADOM itself. If you're doing something wrong in ADOM... then I dont know. Especially cuz you only said "I cant enter a cavern", which makes me believe that you can enter things like Terinyo, or something. Are you entering a cavern that you're not meant to enter?
