    Shift + delete.

But I think eraser doesn't just remove a file but it also overwrites it several times so the file can't be restored with any means.

Shift delete won't save you from thumb drive viruses living it up in your recycler directory. If other peoples drives must enter your machine, better disable autorun entirely (do not believe windows when it says its disbaled) and the recycle bin.

/You should disable autorun anyway, why the hell would I want an extra window popping up asking me do I want to view some photos, when I can access all the bloody files from explorer. Piss off microsoft.

I have had irritating experiences in the past with stupid Recycle bin.
It's been so long ago now (like a decade) that I can't even remember
what my original gripe was with it, but what vogonpoet says about
not believing it when it claims to be dis, um, 'baled' seems to jog a
memory or two. Suffice to say that I'm hooked on eraser and wouldn't
    have it any other way.

I do like this proggy. It comes with a bit of a learning curve, due to all
the options, but it is worth it. It allows you to rename a huge list of files
that have spam built into the names. Will easily transform your hundreds
    of files like:

    Best_ways_to_slay_drunk_irishmen[episode02]DvDrip[Eng]-Stealthmaster[megauploadZOEH93M].visitmysite.con.avi

    into

    BW2SDI[EP02].avi

    even properly numbered and all.

Wow, I'm living in Finland and I have a 1 Mbit/s 3G mobile Internet connection that costs 19 euros/month ($26.55). Most of my friends have like 10 Mbit/s ADSL connections and they think my connection is slow enough to be unusable (but it is adequate for me). I don't know of anyone using a dial-up here anymore. It's not only video, you wouldn't want to use Facebook with a dial-up for instance, so I guess you don't

Anyway, Firefox, OpenOffice and GIMP are also my favourites and I use Fedora Linux distribution to run these programs as well as many others. I also use Ardour that is a free multi-track recorder comparable to ProTools (there are no limitations in the program other than speed of your processor and disks and it uses 32-bit floats for all internal calculations, supports your existing VST plugins etc.) but currently there is no Windows version. There is a Mac port available though.

OT: it seems euro symbol does not work in this forum, although it works fine in other forums I'm using.

Had to upgrade. Now I have 340K down 40K up, and it costs $35 per
month (at&t), but they threw in a free wireless DSL modem.

    > you wouldn't want to use Facebook

    agreed. not under any circumstances

    > Ardour that is a free multi-track recorder comparable to ProTools

    sounds very interesting

    >but currently there is no Windows version

hmm, prolly have to wait then. My linux days seem to be in the past now

    > seems euro symbol does not work in this forum,

if you stick it in 'code' tags, it will display properly

There is one developer working on a Windows version (rest of them say they don't use Windows and don't care about a Windows version but will incorporate it if someone does the work for them), but don't hold your breath. It is a huge C++ program and programming for Windows is very different from Posix platforms like Linux and Mac OS X so there is quite some work to do.. I read a status report that claims Ardour/Windows already compiles and starts successfully, but is very very unstable and totally unusable at the moment.

My brother uses Ardour/Linux for his home studio, using only free LADSPA plugins, and he is very happy with it. I use it sometimes for mastering with Jamin (a free real-time mastering tool with 1024-band eq, 3-band compression, lookahead brickwall limiter and some other features I have never needed) although I could probably use a much lighter host program for Jamin (like Audacity) with no problem. Websites are http://ardour.org/ and http://jamin.sourceforge.net/ in case you're interested to learn more about their features.
