    Really, i see alot of people hype it up. Whats so great about it? Granted, I havent even tried it for at least 4 versions of adom so it might have changed. But. Why bother? You got to lug around a heavy anvil. And a pick axe. and ore. Now if you got strength of atlas it might not be that bad. But whats so great about it? You cant make new items can you, just slightly improve old ones?

    As far as I gather it's because you are not limited to "slightly" improving items - you can improve the living shit out of them.

    I agree with you in all other points, though. Too much hassle just to make the game boring as fuck
    ADOM Guides - whatever you wanted to know about playing a certain class, but have been afraid to ask!

    Check out my youtube channel to see my ADOM videos, including a completed playthrough of the game. I try to give instructions, so if you want to see some place you haven't been before and get some hints on how to deal with it, this might help! There's also some other games featured there that you might find interesting.

    Code:
    waterproof helm of mental stability [+3, +8] {Le+3}
    eternium plate mail of resilience (-1, -2) [+14, +4]
    eternium girdle [+6, +6]
    uncursed tower eternium shield (+2) [+19, +4]
    rustproof bracers of resistance [+8, +8]
    rustproof gauntlets of strength (-1, +0) [+5, +5] {St+6}
    Any of that look appealing? And that's without extreme effort (it can get much better). There are two reasons I don't tend to smith - it takes a bit of effort, and it makes the game too easy. However for certain challenges, or for primarily melee chars, it can help, especially for the tower, and is very easy to get good results from in a short enough amount of time.

    You don't have to lug an anvil, pick axe and ore everywhere - best to stash them somewhere. Ore is easy to acquire by pacifying a level and digging the whole place out, and there's methods to get infinite pick axe repairs at a cheap price (though I generally find enough).

    > eternium plate mail of resilience (-1, -2) [+14, +4]

    What did you DO to that poor armor? You smith it backward? : )

    > waterproof helm of mental stability [+3, +8] {Le+3}

    I stand in awe of your ability to smith... crystal : )

    I really need to get my nit-pickery under control before
    I come to regret it : )

    Any character can learn to smith. Pay Glod his fee (it'll go down depending on your stats... Ch for males and Ap for females), mine some ore, and then go to work.

    Some other valid examples of smithing from me:

    helm of teleportation [+8, +6]
    tower eternium shield [+20, +4]
    bracers of speed [+7, +6] (+4 speed)
    gauntlets of strength (-1, +0) [+5, +6] {St+3}
    light crossbow of accuracy (+8, +8)

    Iron is much easier to smith than the higher metals. Might be wise to practice by smithing ores to ingots first until your skill level gets high. Smithing rusted items is another good way to do it. I also hear that a leather apron will help, but I don't know if that's just a rumor.

    Yes, it takes up a lot of valuable game time, but it's one way to pass time while training stats, especially if you use sickness training.

    Another useful thing about mining... finding gems and stone giants. I had a ring of weakness in my last game and stored about 40 corpses with Waldenbrook and collected about 30 Crystals of Knowledge.

    A mixture of typos and stupidity there... I copied the info from an old flg, somehow swapping the DV/PV figures on the armour, and obviously forgetting that the helm must have been improved with scrolls not smithing. This is what happens when you post at 3am kids!

    To be honest, my armor PV often looks like that
    after emerging from D:50 : )

    Room full of chaos knights/chaos warriors = Awesome armor with a fraction of time spent compared to smithing.
