    Default Good starter characters?

What are some characters that are easier to win the game with? So far i have done the best with dark elf wizard, dark elf beastfighter, drakish monk, drakish fighter. i always die on the other side of the animated forest.

Dark ellf beastfighter are pretty strong. go for a gnomsih barbarian (with the heir talent) to get an easy time killing.
Haven't won with : Druid, Priest, Elementalist, Weaponsmith, Ranger, Merchants, farmers, Necromancer,Thief
Currently trying : Entertaining girlfriend. Very, Very, VERY hard.

really a gnomish barb? do they offer anything to the class other than an extra starting talent?

well, no. xcept rapid leveling. Which is good, but not THAT good.
However, them, with hurtlings (ow) can get the heir talent. Which is EXCELLENT, AND ONE OF THE RARE CASE WHEN YOU CAN IGNORE TH FOR IT.
    brutal mithril twohanded sword.
when you get crowned, you're nearly sure to have a 2 handed weapon. If you get vanquisher, you'r epretty sure to kill ANYTHING in your way. Not too slow.

You need toughness, PV, healing, and to-damage to improve
your chances of winning. Barbarians and beastfighters rule
the melee classes, with beasties edging barbs on healing,
but trailing on PV. Archers and wizards have to-damage licked,
and do it from a distance, so can get away with less of the
other good stuff. Still, I advise barbs and beasties. Chose a
drake, get an early CROWNING (not precrowning), and pump
your PC with herbs. It's a high % win.

Almost any Troll (probably some flavor of fighting class) will be a good bet to survive the earliest parts of the game and learn some things. The heavy melees gut suggested above work well enough even as a non-Troll, though you might have a harder time at first. Other than that, Wizards and Archers often have pretty insane damage outputs that lets them live for a long time too, and are good choices if you want to try more than melee bashing.

And for the 50th time: Troll Healers are losers. Troll adds so little to the equation; just go Candle-born Healer of some other race for much more interesting results and a very similar regen rate.

Starting at To:20, and for every +2 afterward, you get a free
PV point. That makes at least a +2 PV difference for the early
game, and that is a big help.

I agree though, that troll healers are easily surpassed by
other race/class combos. I say use a troll healer until you
    learn the ropes, then switch.

However, you should probably avoid mixing classes which are heavily dependent on leveling, such as beastfighters (whose damage is level-dependent) and trolls, who need HUGE amounts of XP to level. Troll is good for a barbarian, not that good for a beasty.

I agree with gut's drakeling suggestion, since they're pretty buff and can use spit as an emergency weapon. Another useful thing might be to keep your deity happy, so as to be able to get full heals when in need
