Designed from the start to be a speedrunning improvement upon my previous
winner: Sunetra, drakish assassin, who completed the game in 56765 turns.
Started out great, because Yudoka found a two-handed sword of parrying on the
stairs in SMC. This was enough to make the whole of early game a breeze.
Done the healer quest the good way, cleared the vault at PC:6,
spat on Yergius to get a drop in prices from Barnabas, bought some stuff, went
to caverns of chaos, ran through them to papa dwarf. He told me to kill a
lizard man, so I decided it can be done while gathering some herbs to improve
toughness in the big room. Surely enough the plan worked, Yudoka returned to
Dwarftown, took the second quest and rushed off to the animated forest.
And that was hell for him. Not having enough resources to come back through
the forest the easy way, I wanted to cut a path through the trees with a
wand of ball lightning. Unfortunately, I learned the hard way that it angers
the forest. Barely made it back down on the last invisibility potion and
2handed berserk backstabbing. Then it was a trip through DH and it was hard.
Both sets of stairs were far apart and a tension room of giants was in the
way. They were experienced and hit hard and Yudoka barely escaped with his
life, wielding two shields and running like hell.
After returning to dwarftown, I visited the dwarven mystic, who was kind
enough to give SoCRs and I managed to get enough gold from selling stuff
to almost get precrowned. However, I discovered a RoDS in my pack so I wished
for wealth (could've used that one better :]) and that pushed me over to
absolutely close, but one dwarf child lured and killed outside of town
allowed a precrown. The result - Trusted One (because I generate my characters
on ToGu's patch, bored with getting the same artifacts over and over again).
Not terribly good, but useful, because it pushed my DV/PV high enough
to take on the Griffyard.
Went out of CoC, creating teleportation traps on the way on every level
which had the stairs far off. Done the pyramid, Griffyard, hotzenplotz
and returned quickly to DT to finish the quests - fortunately arena reward
was the one with blankets - then I nearly died in darkforge, because
I misclicked the teleportation and didn't have enough charges of tele nor
recharges to fix the mistake. However luckily and healing-depletingly
managed to drop the golems with a dagger of penetration. After selling
the loot got crowned with lightning immunity and Death's Blade again.
It's the weakest of assassin's gifts, but Yudoka already had
a lot of experience in 2handed weapons thanks to parrying sword.
Afterwards using a robe of invisibility Yudoka descended to water temple,
backstabbed the Snake in the darkness and returned to take on the ToEF
using the water orb as anti-confusion and emergency healing device.
Turn count at this point was 25k.
Only needed 3 !oEH (two before reaching ToEF:4), a few stun charges and
one !oInvisibilty to lure the ACW out without his goons and kill him.
Drakeling speed helps a lot in ToEF.
Then, despite not having the ring of high kings, I decided to do the
final dive. First trouble came when the frost giant in DH:2 destroyed
the robe of invisibility. Summoned a GEE to deal with the giants and
took him as a yojimbo. It helped when I got to the banshee and discovered
no beeswax nor !oDeafness. GEE dealt with her easily. Had to leave him a few
levels lower because of a vertical river :( Couldn't do anything else,
because I've had no recharge items for wands and only 1 charge of tele,
kept for the Eternal guardian.
Speaking of which, I nearly died to him because I forgot he'll be able
to punch me after I teleport to the stairs. Fell to 88 hps. However, RNG
rewarded my daring attitude with another RoDS and an altar. Next level was
casino. Picked up all the good stuff and pissed off the shopkeeper with an
unpaid wand of ball lightning, which didn't make the whole casino angry,
only the shopkeeper. Teleported away, sacced stuff to get rid of curse
and have some emergency prayers, returned and defeated the shopkeeper to
gain several levels. Turn count was 30k.
Next stop was cat lord, who wasn't hostile, because I only killed two cats
the whole game (one accidentally in the big room and one on the previous
dungeon level), but told me to not bother him. While I pondered
the possibility of jumping him from behind so to speak, he changed his
mind and started the fight. Killing him took many precious resources,
including healing, wand recharges for teleportation, charges for stun
and web, humanoid slaying ammo and in the end I only gained 2 levels.
Air temple was a breeze, even though Yulgash summoned Chaos Wizards.
I lured them all into my dug out corridor and murdered with the
ancient claymore. By this point I only had 1 corruption, fast play
is very nice in that regard.
I skipped Earth temple, destroyed the grues on D:48 for xps,
ran to the bottom of unreal caves while checking out the scroll shop that
generated there (second of this kind on Yudoka's way). In the mana temple
Yudoka had to detect traps by hand all the way. Then, due to lack of wands,
he couldn't tickle Nuurag with some far slaying rays. However, the enemies
were prone to getting lured and assassinated just behind the main doors of
the mana temple. Even Nuurag came out in reasonable time, though I forgot
about his invisibility and didn't wear the amw, so couldn't effectively
fight him (wasn't worried about Death resistance - both Death's Blade and
Trusted One had it and I only used those two). Ran out of the temple with
Nuurag (and luckily only him) in pursuit, changed armors, blinded him and
cut in half with the ancient claymore.
Returned to the earth temple, used my RoDS to wish for wands of destruction,
ripped the temple open, got surrounded and started mixing herbs and potions
to produce explosions. Thanks to Water orb and bulging cranium corruption
range was 2 so denizens of the earth temple died to Yudoka's lack of
alchemical prowess. By the time he cleared the battle field for ASB to
come to him, his speed was around 200. That made the battle quite easy, as
the slowly approaching ASB and last few of his cronies were pounded by quick
strikes of Death's Blade.
On the way back down, there was a cavernous level with a threat "room" of
greater molochs and one of them decided to guard the passage between stairs.
Fortunately, high speed from all the alchemic explosions allowed to dispatch
him easily. There also was enough of it to not only not go to Speed 10 after
crossing D:49, but Yudoka still had a small bonus when he arrived on D:50.
He also obviously didn't stand a chance against the balors, so I used the
last drops of booze, boost mana and holy water to dig to the levers and
death ray some C's using a wand, destroy one leverand get stuck while trying
to approach the second one with no healing except prayers and no recharges
and a wand of teleportation (0 charges). Wrenched the final charge to get to
the lever and destroy it, but couldn't teleport away, HPs were steadily
dropping down, nearly all the potions were used and I were starting to worry
that I'll use all the prayers and die there with no means to escape.
Tried to use a wand of trap creation, but discovered that tiles that
would contain a teleportation trap were quite far away. Finally I used
the last source of darkness - a crystal - and discovered that neither
chaos mutants nor chaos warriors nor greater chaos servants could see in it.
Waited until teleportation from my 1st corruption kicked in and escaped D:50.
On the way out removed the corruptions with the remaining SoCRs and left
Drakalor Chain in a record number of turns for me.
