I have never won without save scumming before and almost made it with this character, but I messed up and Fistinarius killed me. I thought that the worst was passed and that I had finally made it without save scumming.

Unlucky man, but dude, where's your toughness??? Base To of 28 before corruption suggests eating more morgia, possibly whilst feeling sick, will considerably ease your troubles. Don't even think about drinking any PoGA before To and Wi are nearer 30... Some scrolls of defense and protection might have helped too, for some gear pimping.
