The sweat, the blood, the aura of death... This arena you now stand in has seen countless battles, and will see countless more still to come. You face one opponent, and you see from the fear in their eyes that you are not the only one who has death on your mind. This unsettling feeling is disturbed by the braying crowds around you, all hooting and cheering and yelling for blood. Their mocking cries harden your heart, and looking at your enemy you can think of but one thing: victory.

The Arena Grandmaster sits haughtily on his throne, looking down at the meek and feeble combatants before him. "No more honour!" he roars. "No compassion, no love, no emotion. It is kill or be killed on this arena floor! For death or glory you will battle in frenzy amid the hideous pits of infinity, and for most it will be just Death. Aye, beware, for His perverse hand will creep its way into the softest parts of your soul, and violate every fragment of your being before the bitter end... LET THE DUELS BEGIN!!!"

Maul shredded by a claw bug, scoring 1027 xp
Sulangatori starved whilst cuddling a swordman, scoring 1110 xp
Sulangatori wins!

10 - Soirana {3} vs pblack {2} (dark elven beastfighter)
pblack killed by chaos sister on I13
Soirana survived the following round
Soirana wins!
(and then he dove to I20 for our entertainment)

11 - fazisi {1} vs Laukku {1} (grey elven archer)
both fell to the same door, but Laukku fell first
fazisi wins!

12 - Al-Khwarizmi {4} vs Albahan {3} (hurthling elementalist)
Albahan spated through some spiders but was splashed by an acid vortex
Al-Khwarizmi couldn't even get through the little spiders
Albahan wins!

Evil_Knievil passed away in his sleep
meh did more than just dream of surviving

Decided to play fast since... Well cause i like it.

I do not plan to mark every rat i killed or evry iron ration i did not bothered picking up before descending. Sorry.

Turn 8 - great the only door out of first room "does not budge at all".

Once the viision from blinding trap returns brave beastfighter charges forward

Turn 22 - descend to I2

T23 - actually i notice river on descending. See no reason go back yet

T30- river crossed descend to I3

T139- stupid secret door stopped our brave hero but he trashed it with good kick

T247- Level 2 - pick some alertnes, dodge and find weakness

T290 met ghul... mmm... let's toss boots... Dead already?

t304- level 3picked some athletics and healing too. picked brawler as atalent option.

t359- reached I4

t422 - reached I5

arround t550 started dealing with werewolf. Actually need wolves to block few guys i have zero wish to deal with.

t668 - level 4 some cocktail of same skills. Pushing atheletics for speed. +1 to strength

t818 -reached i6, oh now magical shock takes away mine MP... Oh, wait i had magic points?

t839- spotted snake

t872- got crossbow

t902- reached down stairs. time to get rid of stuff like prayers non deleven food... what a pity no cursed stuff to wield, let's try exploring level a bit more

t999- descend once again.

Summary I7 lv4 [closing on 5] slight food problems.

lvl 5 - Dodge, athletics

t1300 - burping sound, lots of red worms, got 8 rocks

lost spider shell armor to worms, wore the extra heavy leather armor

t1470 - descended to I8

t1600 - tension room of kobolds. More rocks.

lvl 7 - FW, dodge, Athletics - agressive talent

t1900 - wererat

lvl 8 - FW, dodge, Athletics

t2000 - descended to I9

Duel 8, Round 1 - Grey vs nathrakh

Turn 1: Changed our dwarf's name to Grumpy, cause I get the feeling he'll end up feeling that way after all the bad things that'll happen to him... He doesn't look all that tough I must say - this sort of combo isn't actually that great for the ID. We'll see how he goes...

Turn 288: Found a -2 PV hat - fortunately not cursed (yet). Also got some rocks and a sling from a friendly goblin. Killing the mobs here with great ease right now. Descend to ID2.

Turn 509: Level 2 - pumped Alertness, Athletics, Find Weakness, Healing. Turns out stairs is behind locked door, but happily no trap. Found a wand and some sling bullets. Descend.

Turn 603: Level 3 - Alertness, Dodge x 2, Find Weakness. Dx+1. Chose Good Shot talent.

Turn 746: Door trap shreds Grumpy's sling, grrr. No significant injury though.

Turn 1017: Oops, went over turns a little. Never got a chance to do anything chaotic :( On I4, mostly explored, just killed a large bat who left a corpse.

Sorry I wasn't meaner, nathrakh! I feel quite certain you'll have no trouble killing yourself though...

Descended peacefully to ID:1. Immediately push pray button 3 times. Nothing happens.
Fought some monsters and advanced to lvl2: music, first aid, detect item status x2.

Descended to ID:2. Fought some more uninteresting monsters and advanced to lvl3:
music, first aid, stealth x2. Talent: 'Scout'. Healed by prayer after claw bug attack.
Ate claw bug. Advanced to lvl4: music, first aid x2, detect item status. Got 29/30 hp
and prayed: "Mortal, ye art a nuisance!". Ground rumbles. Drop all equipment except
elven chain mail, lute, potion of healing and scroll of monster detection. Take new
claw bug with me to ID:3.

Descend to ID:3. Drink potion of healing and read scroll of monster detection: left side
screen has claw bug, kobold, raider, ghost or huge bat and orc scorcher. All scattered.
Right side has only a claw bug. Explore only the room at the bottom right, which is
located right under my entrance. Step into the lower right corner with claw bug beside
me to my upper left. 10/30 hp left. 1000 turns.

Okay, round two.

T2056 -- run into rats
t2129 - still killing rats, lv8 - focus on same skills
T2235 - had some entertainment with blink dog, descend
t2261--- changed my armour into something better [srtudded leather]
T2308 --descend to i12
t2422 -- hear distant wind, found that wind and closed up
t2615-- meat som otherdelven, got poisoned.
T3000- still on I12 as i failed to find stairs.


Short description of level.

Vortex [white] is in lower left room [not fully explored].
Displace beast left near up stairs.

That concotion of monsters right to char is due to necromancer+black wizard. Ghuls, orcs and wererats have been in multiples. I saw singleton scorcher and mummy too. I brewed them a bit in low middle chamber [just bellow character and than dragged them all over right side...]

Nothing too bad in my opinion must be uncreative today.

I didn't get to play mean since the RNG was far too generous to me. Still, all the fun things appear deeper in the ID.

t3000 - killed a couple of monsters and ran.

t3200 - recovered a bit of HP and killed vortex with rocks. stairs in vortex room. descended.

t3400 - low on HP, got caught by a chaos sister, when running an orc blocked me and I died.

NOTE: ankheg in the room right below the room with all the summons.

Now if you can survive you win =P

I slay the claw bug with one hit then <> as I see a river. I descend and see two more claw bugs in the next room. I kill one, the next one destroys me, however.

This was short and fun. Nah, actually, it wasn't fun at all. Awaiting Weakest Link.

(Well, unless Sula manages to get killed immediately. In which case I win. Try to surpass 1027 experience points. =/)

Found hurthling bread next to the starting stairs and a quarterstaff soon after.

Taking stairs to I2 after ~300 turns.

Found a medium shield. A tension room of rats proved surprisingly difficult with just 1 PV.

I came across some pit vipers, which I killed with acid spit.

Taking stairs to I3 after ~600 turns.

Killed various random monsters, with spit when necessary.

The stairs down are behind one of two closed doors, and there is also a tension room on the level, so I just waited until turn 1000.

Since i loaded file to make some screenshot I could as well play it out...


I13- thought that was end of char. Did not took long to understand there is another vortex on level and delven spider factory.

Vortex blowed in face and i had to drag that delven girl half level till i managed to get around her and put some spiders in between of us. Maybe we meet some other day, sweetheart.

t4650 found fomorian giant behind rats and spiders... will see. Used beastfighters bonus to kill some rats from coward and navigated around him using remaining wererat summons as meat shield...
t4687 - fancy still can't find stairs down. Level up took Quick as talent, got +1ST, +1DX, +1To [early pump of Athletics gives results]
t4730 - killed fomorian giant using webs. Still need find stairs down
t4795 - sorted withs secret doors
t5009 I14 - met shambling mound [to be honest char is fairly overdrived], run around and lock him
t5155 descend since most of level is locked away at any rate
T5500 start drinking pots for satiation. Decided it is time for final suicidal dive anyway

Duel 14 - Molach vs. Baranor.

Loaded up the char.
I1: Find stairs next room, descend on turn 11.
I2: Find new stairs, descend again on turn 100. Still level 1.
I3: Tension room of goblins/hob and chiefs takes us to level 4. Explore level in full even after finding stairs.
I4: Kill some, get to level 5.

No prayers used.

On equipment, found a leather armor, it got hurt, then equipped +2 +2 thick furs which we are currently wearing. Picked up other random stuff, wore an iron ring. Starting food except rotted/eaten apples is intact otherwise. Collected rocks, threw a bit with them.

Talents: Took "very quick" talent on level 3.

Apart from fast descending, which would be frowned upon in normal game, did nothing especially chaotic. Take it away.

Duel 12 here. Sorry for being a bit late, I planned to play yesterday but I got swamped by an unexpected surge of paperwork.

0: Entered the ID (turn count at zero at the entrance of the ID? I call shenanigans).
83: Hit a pit trap. Snakes crawl out of the pit even though I leap aside. Damn. Killed one with two burning hands, casting one from HP's. Got out.
137: Hit stairs, descended to ID:2.
148: Made lvl. 2. Got Concentration, Archery, Swimming, Healing.
323: Picked up 8 rocks. (I highlight this because we are a hurthling).
488: Hit stairs, descended to ID:3.
494: Made lvl. 3. Picked Porter. 3xConcentration (really bad rolls, 1 point per roll!), Healing.
509: Hit stairs, descended to ID:4.
523: Hit stairs, descended to ID:5.
596: Got a St increase (was burdened from carrying lots of food).
657: Hit stairs, descended to ID:6.
756: Made lvl. 4. Picked Concentration (x2), Healing, Swimming.
1000: Saved. Nothing else special done. Our situation is the following: there's a huge bat (or something like that... a dark grey bat) in the room to the west. There's a tension room somewhere in the level. We have enough food to feed a regiment. I haven't done anything chaotic to the character at the moment, the only thing that can be considered chaotic is descending 6 levels.

Strolling peacefully down a corridor Molabara sees a supposedly friendly Dark Sage. Shortly upon sighting Molabara takes 3 bolts to the chin as he walked up to the Dark Sage for the butt-whoopin. Quickly dispatched.

Came upon an unfriendly fire beetle also met it's maker.

Oooh. Large Ration!

Large bat follows the fire beetle.
Ditto giant lizard.
Ditto goblin chieftain.
Ditto cooshoo.

I KNOW! Already, this is riveting stuff.

Another goblin chieftain. He does get a few hits in, but takes us to level 6. Pumped all 3 into Healing. Figured I wouldn't play counter just yet and took greased lightning.

Large bat bites the dust.
Waiting to heal. Kill lizard man, 2 white worms, quasit, bugbear and skeleton.

Descend. Oooh. A blanket. Maybe some help with rivers?

Sweet a scroll labeled Foo Bar. Perhaps we can use it to mop up the sweat.

Kill large bat. Kill hobgoblin. Kill orc and eat corpse. Leave dagger.

(96s) broadsword! Too bad we are a beast fighter. Leave it.

Kill claw bug. Kill slavemaster.

Oooh. A werewolf summons some wolves. My first real interesting encounter. By interesting, I simply mean slightly higher difficulty than earlier. The wolves do get us to 30 before we get level 7. Pump Healing, Athletics, and Dodge.

Take leather cap.

6083 Points. Why do I always stop paying attention in these things? Congrats Molach. Easy win. I wanted to make it farther with you, but stupidity trumps all.

Ahh finally, so here I go...

First I explored the current level a bit more got a St increase, ran into a corpse fiend and some vipers and ended up leveling up
I chose Conc x2, Archery, healing
Ran into that tension room, door was trapped with a flash but luckily he closed his eyes in time
Turned out to be a mixed room but dealt with most of them just fine bringing us to level 6
I upped Conc, Healing, Archery, Swimming and picked Good Learner
Then something invisible from the tension room, presumably an invisible stalker, decided to start kicking my ass. I was Hungry and low on PP and had 7hp so I was forced to use a prayer and then finally scorch him to death bringing us to level 7
Chose Conc, First aid, Healing, Archery
Found a black gauntlet, currently un ID'ed but I know it gives us +1 PV, Also picked up a broadsword and a small shield that i equipped instead of the quarterstaff
Finally descended and ran into a rust monster. He was nbd and dropped an amulet.
There's a river on the level so I had to make an ice bridge all across. There was also a tension room in the upper left filled with goblins that i already took care of and ate all their corpses.
So now you are right next to a door just past an ice bridge, I don't know if its trapped or not I accidently went 36 turns over
All I know about the level is that I dropped the quarterstaff and some shell armor that was something like [-1,+2]

Nothing really chaotic besides using up 1 prayer.

Edit: Oh yeah we also got another round of stat increases, +1 Str and +1 Ma

I took another turn, here is the report:

2036: Started.
2084: Went west. Picked rocks that were in tension room. Picked quarterstaff (I prefer it to the sword, sorry... the sword does almost no damage).
2127: Advanced to exp level 8. Picked Concentration (x2, maxed out), Healing (x2).
2260: Was poisoned by pit viper.
2314: Picked weeping orcish spear from hill orc. Unequipped quarterstaff, equipped spear+shield.
2431: Hit stairs, descend to ID:8.
2470: No longer poisoned.
2550: Only exit is a trapped door, waiting for a while since health is below 30.
2733: Kicked door open. Fireball trap, but we're resistant, we didn't take much damage.
2783: Brought to 12 HP by stone block trap on corridor.
2897: Hit stairs, descended to ID:9.
2958: Hit stairs, descended to ID:10.
3000: Saved, didn't explore much of the level.

There is nothing remarkable known about the level. We are on quite low HP, but nothing else especially bad... for now.

Nothing too interesting,
Realized he needed a name so I chose Malak Slayer because Malakai Slayer is too long
Got to level 9 increased healing, swimming, gardening (typo) and literacy
Chose healthy as the next talent.
Got to the stairs used up the scroll of identify and drank our potion of potential willpower and then the slimy one which didn't do anything, I think it was a potion of healing =/
Dropped some stuff on the staircase including that evil quarterstaff that you seem to have become attached to and then descended.

Current Situation: You are on the down staircase for the next level with 1 PP and almost full HP. Haven't explored the rest of the level so I have no idea whats waiting there.

Wow, how did you get rid of the sickness? I double prayed and only got rid of the poison, which is why I waited so long in my attempt to kick the door. I thought 250 turns would be enough to get through the level to the stairs.

EDIT: Nevermind, I guess Sickness doesn't show up on .flgs, it's not on mine either.

ID:4 Explore a bit, finding dark sage (didn't blast me though) and the fire beetle. Gain level 6, greased lightning and poison resistance. Move back, find downstairs and descend.
ID:5 Boring level, and I did take my time exploring. Gibbering mouther takes off a cool 30 hps before finally taking a hit and dying. Otherwise nothing much. Kill a dark elf warrior by throwing rocks and running around him.
ID:6 Arrived at around turn 1900, so don't have time to see much before time is up.

Nathrakh is dead.

1017: load the save. Check Grumpy's equipment and stats etc. Looks quite good save for the low-ish PV (2). Eat the large bat corpse laying around and now Grumpy feels bloated.

1044: Level 5, athletics, healing, find weakness & first aid.

1053: encounter a jackalwere, summons a lot.

1093: staves lvl 3.

1129: kobold chieftain crits and I'm bleeding, first aid stops bleeding instantly.

1140: kobold chieftain crits again, I need to run.

1179: I get stuck between a swordsman and kobold chieftain. I try to kill the swordsman with scurgaris but fail. Dead.

I died purely because I haven't played for a long time. I even forgot to pray :-D

After arriving to Italy, I retook the duel. This is beginning to get interesting, there are already some pretty nasty foes in these levels of the ID.

Here is the chronicle of this turn:

4000: Descended to I:13.
4139: Poisoned by dark elven warrior, but the poison was not too strong so I just keep going and killing monsters.
4352: Reached level 10. Picked 3x healing, literacy.
4356: Descended to I:14. Made a couple of ice bridges to cross this level, but nothing else really relevant.
4438: Descended to I:15.
4825: Saw a gorgon. RAN LIKE THERE IS NO TOMORROW. Fortunately, she didn't petrify me.
4872: Descended to I:16. Got hurt in combat fighting a dire wolf that got a critical. w5'd to heal, and inadvertently overplayed a bit (to turn 5006).

So overall nothing remarkable. Again I did nothing chaotic except diving (I'm not really a fan of extreme chaotic tactics. I'm a fan of diving though). We have less food than before but not enough to say that there's a problem at the moment. Of the current level I know nothing, since I descended and didn't exit the first room.

Well I've survived another turn...
Descended twice this turn putting us on I18
Killed a few mobs and then a caveman who gave us our latest level up, chose healingx3 and archery
And now I've put you in a somewhat interesting position...

You'll notice a closed door in the upper right... past that door is a room of hill giants which then, i presume leads to the stairs. Behind the door you are currently in might be multiple spiders/tarantulas summoned by a DE priestess whom i bolted a few times but shrugged all I believe. Nothing else too important so... good luck!

I made it past the spiders and the giants, and I was able to descend to I:19, although I couldn't do much more. This is beginning to get rather tricky.

6001 Damn, there are lots of spiders, and she's summoning more. I begin to cast bolts. Loads of bolts. Of course they poison me.
6020 Managed to kill the DE priestess.
6040 I am in the room with a bunch of spiders, and more are coming from the corridor. I repeatedly cast fire bolt, also from HP, until I have around 30 HP and I'm able to close the door and leave the rest of the spiders behind. I also manage to take a tarantula corpse and eat it for poison resistance.
6067 No longer poisoned.
6125 More spiders killed, reached experience level 12. 3x healing, archery, potent aura.
6300~ Finished with the spiders, now to fight the giants.
6727 Done with the giants, it was less dangerous than the spiders although I had to balk to recover several times.
6779 Descended to I:19.
6782 Fought a couple of mobs including a fomorian giant that hit me for nasty damage. Wounded. Waiting for a while for HP.
6921 Resuming exploration.
7000 We are in a level with a tension room. We are in front of a locked door, I have just killed a ghost bat which was at the door square. Food is beginning to be a problem. We are hungry and I think the only really nutritious thing that we have is hurthling bread (and I'm not even sure if I might have eaten that too, so check).

7000 Explored east, saw that there was nothing in that direction.
7040 Blinded by a door trap. I'm hearing lots of vortices.
7200-7300 Desperate search for secret doors as alternative to presumed room of vortices. None found.
7420 Kicked the door of the room, triggering blindness trap and message for mixed tension room. I retreat, bolting stuff without seeing it on the way. I get to the corridor. Damn, there's something tough here.
7490 Blindness ends. Damnit, I was firebolting a fire beetle. Lesson: if you don't see anything, alternate different bolt types.
7520 Went to another room to regenerate PP.
7573 Spectre drains me.
7628 I see a DE priestess (or princess, I always mess those up). I cast burning hands, twice, but she hits me hard in melee, for like 30 HP and another 30 HP. I was too careless, I should have prayed but I thought I could take her. I died. Hey, well, at least it's the death that our hero would have wanted, at the hands of a hottie.
