a charming google ad on adom.de's home page. I hope it is
generating enough $ to at least help pay bandwidth, but I
have to wonder if most people have the home page set as
their starting point though? My favorite/bookmark for
adom.de is the forum selection page, and I imagine that is
the case for most users, as the blog and download sections
aren't updated as frequently. Wouldn't ads on the forum
selection page generate moar $$$?

I always just type in "adom.de" then hit the Forum button, so I regularly pass by the google ad.

The way you do it is better then, as the page/ad at least does load.
The way I do it passes the home page completely. Once loaded,
I often minimize the browser, or switch to a different tab, switching
back periodically through the day to hit refresh. I suppose I could just
change my Adom start page, but I'm thinking about suggesting
something different to TB. I want to get others opinions first, as it
may annoy some.

I wonder what others think of the idea of having an ad + auto-refresh
feature added to the 'General ADOM discussion' page (I assume it to
be the most visited one). I've noticed some other sites I visit, such as:

http://mmajunkie.com/

(a mixed martial arts news site) using automatic refreshes and it works
out nicely. They only use it on the article listing page, so it isn't something
that would happen in the middle of reading a story or anything. It is a
convenience feature for viewers, and (probably) generates more 'hits' for
the site. Honestly, I don't know if the extra 'hits' even count, or if they do,
would they even be worth persuing. I was just thinking, if a lonely 10 forum
fans kept that particular page open/minimized/tabbed, a refresh period of,
say, 10 minutes would gen 60 'hits' per hour...

I have ads blocked anyway, so I'm really not fussed. Maybe it could attract some of the spambots though?

I guess it's sort of pointless to discuss where ads would be best placed, if there's people in here who're just going to block that shit. :)

I've got it installed, in these days I'll only switch it on if a site gets broken by the ads. Apart from that, I read lots of webcomics and a couple of blogs of people who I do want to support, and the least I can do is not block their ads.

I have whitelisted all ads on adom.de because they are so unobtrusive (only loaded once per visit: when I load the homepage to get to the forums).

If TB would add ads to the forum I'd block them again.

Think about it :)
