The other day I was fooling around with a few random Roguelikes that were listed on roguebasin, when I came across a game I had heard of but never really tried.
The game is ToME, which I think was a silly Angband variant from long ago (I really rather disliked Angband and all the nonsense that was made about it).
However this game ToME has been remade from scratch and has become something wonderful. As an ADOM player for centuries I have discovered this game ToME with a renewed love for roguelikes, and the community around this game is truly creative and interested with the development of the game. And the creator is not an all-powerful and mysterious sexy German man like Dr.T.B., giving us mere glimpses of his greatness with yearly posts. The developers of ToME are really involved and are constantly working on material to make the game better.
So I am bringing this up on the ADOM forums because I know that there are many great roguelike players around this community, and while I have been hoping for JADE for years now, or even some kind of idea for its development, I have found ToME to be something we can get involved in as roguelike players to help this game become something great.

Here is the website, its a hefty download beware!
http://tome.te4.org/

Also, I am obviously totally oblivious to any stigma that may or may not be around this game or the people that develop it, I've been a sheltered ADOM player!

I once watched jmr playing ToME4 streamed to termcast.org. It seems like a very interesting and compelling game. It wouldn't be the first roguelike I would recommend to people since it seems to have a very steep learning curve (in fact, every Angband variant or derivative I have played seems to not be a good "first rl"). However, anyone in the ADOM community who has grown bored of ADOM but wants to keep playing an awesome game, ToME is a good thing to try.

I tried it not so long ago myself at the encouragement of the game's author, DarkGod. I'll agree he's an excellent developer that communicates with his community a lot and seems to work tirelessly on his project.

The game itself didn't impress me a great deal, since as a person that takes Tolkien far too seriously I really don't like have Dunedain adventurers wandering about casting lightning spells and so on. Seems kinda offensive. Gameplay wise it didn't excite me much either, but then I didn't get far. What mostly struck me though was the incredible potential from the game engine. The characters are very ability-based, and the structure is there for a lot of expansion beyond the current low number of classes. I think it will certainly develop into something monstrously complex and fun.

And regarding the engine, I'm thinking quite seriously of starting to make games with it from now on. The T-Engine DarkGod has created is amazingly flexible with a lot of useful existing tools, and it seems like the Lua scripting would be easy to learn and put to use to great effect. Hopefully I can get some mini-project done before the end of the year...

Honestly, that was a very polite and educational contribution. I think a few
choice posters could learn a thing or two from the tone you have brought
to this forum.
