1. When would you use slaves? A few zombies and skeletons is hardly going to help your early game, stealing your exp for not much use. Although, you could keep one or two around as Cat Dispatchers...
2. Even so, BUGWIL gets your levels, but what then from there? Get healing? And play as a "normal" wizard?
3. Back to the slaves, a few mana points for Wights and Wraiths doesn't seem fair. Or maybe it's because the ones you normally see are level 1-2. Would you grind the SMC for corpses to get slaves?

Thanks in advance.

In the beginning, ghuls can be fun (they paralyze stuff and you kill it). Creating slaves trains mana so much that you gain more mana than you lose, over time. This is the main practical use.

Necros can just play as normal wizards, but necromancy can be fun to toy with. If you want a really strong slave, try to get a quickling (lord/royalty) corpse. Scumming the SMC is something I'd never do, though.

1.Yes, they can kill cats, and you can use them as meat shields.
2.Playing as wizard works good, only difference that spells with high PP cost(like Death Ray) you will find not so useful as when playing wizard.
3.I wouldn't.But i never wanted. And yeah - quicklings are the best, as they don't slow you down(except when you move through levels using TP of course).

Most likely early game any tough situation. Preferably you should have corpse to animate for emergancies as corpse can be carried without causing frustration slaves/companions do.

Ghuls are a decent early-game slave since they paralyse. Don't worry too much if they die though. Training pets is difficult. Animating slaves in the SMC is a very good idea. Don't need to scum there--just get a corpse from another area and truck it over.

A few of the middle undead slaves (vampires and the like) will drop To boosting corpses, which can be useful if you're morgia deprived.

Quickling lords/queens/kings make the best slaves (regular quicklings are okay too), since they're fast and regenerate HP. A quickling ghul/lich gets about 30 attacks per turn each with potential paralysis effects.

Also reanimating a dwarven child you murdered as your eternal undead slave and getting it to slaghter all of Dwarftown is fun.
