I finally made it. Grey Elven Wizard closed the gate. My first true win. Huge thanks goes to the people on #adom channel. Despite gutt's endless attempts to sabotage my efforts, he also provided some invaluable suggestions, notably killing the AKW and praying more often than I normally would.

Also worthy of noting, I've found a quickling lord tension room on some level in the rift and a corruption trap in a tunnel right next to it. Some quicklings wandered into the trap and one eventually transformed into a writhing mass of primal chaos... with 700 speed, 6 attacks and able to see invisible. Luckily 100+ DV and 57 Dx helps in evading just such a potentially dangerous situation.
I ran into a hostile greater titan in blue dragon caves but after a few attempts, I just moved on with my life :) Too much of a hassle.

It's hard to count how many times I had to lead them into dead-end rooms, then lock the door, or teleport them out, or change them with potions of exchange due to a lack of better option... hell even a balor on D50 summoned some cats and I had to teleport them out while at the same time evading 5 other balors... takes some patience indeed.

it was critically wounded, and he was wearing cat ring at the
time. would have been so glorious to see it explode, as i was
watching at the time.

as far as my advices, well you know the old saying: whatever
doesn't kill you makes you stronger. that definitely applies
here.

I don't think i have ever seen a player be more careful when
casting magic missiles :)
