As we already have threads for new monsters (http://www.adom.de/forums/showthread.php/141-Monsters), artifacts (http://www.adom.de/forums/showthread.php/133-Artifact-suggestions..), races (http://www.adom.de/forums/showthread.php/88-Races), locations (http://www.adom.de/forums/showthread.php/120-Overmap-Alternatives-to-Dungeons) and classes (http://www.adom.de/forums/showthread.php/10536-Class-Suggestions), but not for spells, I decided to create one.

So off we go:

Stop time

Gives a speed boost of +999999 to the caster, but only lasts for a short while.

Polymorph/Change shape

An obvious choice, as TB has said that JADE will feature the ability to change into another being. Can be cast on oneself or a being next to you. Only useful if one has polymorph control. It can be used for becoming something much more powerful or turning princes into frogs.

Erase

Erases something (items, walls, dungeon features, NPCs, monsters) from existence.

New spell: kill monster. When cast, all monsters in the game die instantly.

It will improve game balance. Spellcasters are severely underpowered in ADOM. ;)

Are you implying that my suggestions are overpowered?... Well, obviously those should be much more costly. And inventing spells more powerful than in ADOM is just too fun. :o

Actually I was thinking of the suggestions of someone else. Well nevermind, was just a dumb joke.

maybe some kind of very expensive (pp) super ball spell that engulfs everything within 10 squares.

Conjure Flaming Blade
-Creates a sword shaped flame if the caster's right hand is open, does slashing and fire damage. Fire damage goes up as caster is more powerful. Lasts a few rounds...

I think we should go with something like Enchant - any elemental damage for your current melee/missile weapon(s). Can even work for bare-handed combat :)

I like the idea of an "enchant" spell.

We could imagine it working in combination with gems / cristals for the different effects you can add to items.
It should cause some minor stats drain though or other drawbacks, making it difficult enough to shape magical items.
This way flaming swords, arrows of darkness and the like could be "manufactured" instead of found randomly.

On Spell Effects with Randomized Effects:

-Healing Surge:
A bolt of healing energy bounces between random targets in AOE sphere, healing both allies and enemies. It heals less and less with each bounce until it fizzles. This would make it a good spell to use to heal your comrades(companions in ADOM could have benefited), or to wreak havoc on a group of Undead without hurting a living caster. It could also help if the caster is badly wounded, but surrounded by fresher enemies as it would heal him, but not aid them much because they aren't wounded.

Of course there could be a Negative Energy version:
-Doom Bolt
Acts similar to Healing Surge, but harms living creatures and heals undead. Could be a favorite of Necros.

-Death's Head Visage:
Causes affected Creature to temporarily assume some of the properties of an Undead Creature. They aren't affected by hunger, poisons or disease for the duration (though they also don't improve naturally while under the effect either, it basically just suspends the negative effects) and instead of being healed by healing spells they are harmed. They can be healed by drinking Unholy Water however, and eating bones gives no satiation, but does heal them a goodly amount (1d4 or 1d6 hp per bone say). More powerful or skilled casters might assume even more powerful traits and/ or immunities. Oh and gives a -6 to Chr and App while in effect from making the caster look CREEPY.

Summon River

A variation of the earthquake spell that splits the land masses, opening a tunnel to the nearest source of water. When the huge masses of water first arrive as a big wave, they wash away everything and cause extreme water damage on all on its path. Then everything settles and you have a normal river flowing through the level map. Probably shouldn't work above ground.

Enlarge item / shrink item:
Shifts the size of an item one up or down. Possibly there should be a temporary and a permanent version of this, but just a permanent would be ok too. Obviously a high pp cost and hard to learn. I think making it two different spells would be the most fun. Or make the effect random and add a characteristic 'polymorph control' (similar to teleport control) to the game.

Enlarge / shrink creature:
Works on monsters or the pc. Temporarily (duration based on caster skill, like all duration spells) makes a creature one size larger or smaller. Destroys clothes and armor when growing, unequips most equipment when shrinking. Pretty powerful against monsters, so they should get a good chance to resist. Bonus: could also be used to get into special locations where for example only tiny creatures would fit.
Maybe there should also be an even better version which enlarges/shrinks all the equipment too.


Edit: oh, and obviously we also need scrolls and potions with these effects.
