Kipubs was a Lawful, Female Gnomish Fighter of some renown, whose name has absolutely no connection with a certain Creator. Young at a century and ten, she set off to bring order back to a chaotic realm. Along the way, she picked up many priceless, forgotten treasures. Armed with those treasures, her wits, and a mountain of other assorted items, she closed the gate to a world of Chaos...
I started off getting Healing from Jharod. That was simple. I didn't like the hand ax she started with, so I intentionally triggered a spear trap that I saw a goblin run into. Luckily, the spear I got was uncursed, though it was an average spear in all respects. I used it until I found an adamantium warhammer on the lowest level. On VD:4, I got teleport control and Healing at more or less the same time, from a blink dog that popped into Jharod's room and immediately summoned over a dozen more. I hate it when they do that; the numbers are great, and with a human character with 60+ Food Preservation I'd have no hesitation in quickly slaughtering them, but it was easy to get surrounded. Fortunately, I was surrounded on one side by Jharod, the living heap of 7 blessed potions of ultra healing.
I was about halfway through the third day when I reached the bottom of PC. The vault was gnoll, and uninteresting. I got a few nice items - a girdle of carrying, mithril chain mail, PoGA - and a short stack of water. I used a white altar on PC:1 to finish converting myself to Lawful alignment, at which point I took the cute dog home.
I immediately started the quest to kill Hotz for the amulet of order, and took advantage of a blessed wand of magic missiles that I'd had un-ID'd since TD to kill him and his lackeys before they stepped outside.
I wanted to make a stop at the SC or the Assassin's guild before going to the CoC, but lacking a means of item detection or map revelation, I couldn't get the wand of teleportation. I also wasn't invisible, which brought my chances of surviving the SC close to nil. So I exercised some discretion and went to Dwarftown.
Thundarr asked me to kill a large kobold. I love that guy when he's not being a complete tool. "Go slay a ghost lord, hur hur."
A little past Dwarftown, I started getting very lucky, very quickly with the item drops. A vault two levels below it (a jelly vault, I hate those) dropped a helm of teleporting and the Crown of Leadership, perfectly combining combat viability and outside-combat utility. I never wore anything else. I used the HoT to chat with the dwarven mystic, and get Rolf's Ax. I felt comfortable enough then to go through the Dwarven Halls, where, barring a scary run-in with an experienced gorgon, I had a pretty safe trip.
I used the wand of fireballs to annihilate Rehetep. I had a scroll of item detection, so I got the wand of teleportation, and I had a ring of invisibility, so I dove through the UD. Somewhere in there, I got another PoGA.
I was stuck at "very close" piety for a while before I remembered that I wasn't L+. So I finished Thundarr's quests including the portal, and got crowned (I wasn't planning an ultra). I got Long Sting, which I promptly sold and never saw again.
Now, here's one annoying bit. I won in the arena before doing the Ogre quest, because I forgot about the Ogre quest. I've never done that before and I hope I never go again. So I had to kill another random monster instead. Guh. I'd like to believe I might have gotten Rolf's Shield if it weren't for that. Oh, well. In the long run, it worked out fine.
I had to use Bridge Building for the RotHK. It took two trips. Could have been worse.
Now, here's that first annoying bit's psychotic, ex-con uncle. I had an amulet of life-saving from pool-sipping, and I 'c'hatted with Khelavaster. The amulet would sit in my inventory for the rest of the game, unused.
... I know.
Moving on. I don't even remember the Water Snake. I think I paralyzed it. Yeah, I did. I paralyzed the Snake, The ACW, and the Cat Lord, and then beat them into pulp with Rolf's or a Masterwork Adamantium Mace of Penetration. Sometimes, I vaguely regret that I try to put bosses at an absolute disadvantage to the point of helplessness whenever I can. That's no longer a fight but an execution.
Then I remember all the times they killed me in a fair fight, and figure I'd rather be a regretful victor than a bitter loser.
The top floor of ToEF had a tension room of Corruptors. I have never hated that bright pink capital C before, but I think that's because I never saw so many of them at once. I took two corruptions, the second of which was stiff muscles. I had to use the HMV's scroll on it.
Stuff got easier after ToEF. Not in any way less dangerous, but I started picking up artifacts like crazy. Ironfist was in the Casino, along with 7LB's, already blessed. A Greater Giant Vault generated Far Slayer and Executor, settling my offensive tactics for the remainder of the game. A Greater Undead Vault... gave me Protector. It was, strangely, the only artifact generated inside. I made a mad dash into it, killing only the lesser undead and lich king in the way, and teleporting out. After that, a surge of power finalized my arsenal with Wyrmlance.
The rest of the game passed relatively easily - is what I would like to say. The truth is, I was up to "I" in corruption by the Mana Temple, with no methods of removal. I was forced to use the Unicorn, as my Climbing skill was not yet 100. I went back in for the final dive on day 89, and closed the gate just after day 90. I went to the Library after that, and got the 5 scrolls, which removed all of my corruptions save one.
... If I'd noticed that I also got a ring of djinni summoning in there, I'd have used the wish on another one. *facepalm*
