Hi all,

I've been developing a roguelike tileset (which of course will never be used on ADOM:p).

You can see my initial tiles on:

http://roguelikepixels.blogspot.com

I'm going for a simple, cartoon-like feel, where humanoid NPCs are "@" symbols, non-humanoids are the corresponding letter from ADOM, Nethack etc, terrain will try and follow roguelike symbols, and equipment will be stylised (some may follow roguelike symbols).

Any feedback will be gratefully received.

Cheers

i like those.

adom already has hacked tiles, and those actually might be usable

if i still played adom, i would try those

Never say never! Thoams is looking into ways to support custom tilesets in ADOM with stronger NotEye integration.

That's the kind of tiles I liked when I was just getting into NetHack.

Nice tileset. I'm hoping that I'll be able to make a complete tileset in reasonable time. I'm working on items now, so stay tuned.

Super cool tile set!!! If ADOM was going to have a tileset this is the best looking one that I've seen so far. And of course the matching with the ASCII symbols for a majority of the tiles is megarad.

p.s. I could tell that the dogs were dogs right away, they don't look very rabbity to me.

Well, it looks like my tiles could be used in ADOM in the future- hooray for the Indiegogo campaign!

So, I've been working on them and now have 500+ tiles, but I've realised that there are probably at least 500+ more to go. Oh well, it's still fun making them, so I'll keep plodding on.

I've added a few more tiles to my blog - including a mock-up screenshot.

Finally, here's Bugs....with a carrot dagger....

Well, sorry for necroing this, but I've done quite a few new tiles since the last post and I've posted the current tileset on:

http://roguelikepixels.blogspot.com

I'm going to try increase the speed of new tiles, as I've got a bit more free time now.

Yes, there are non-ADOM tiles there too, but I just can't resist doing them when they pop into my head.

Anyone know how to draw a Unicorn from a "U", or an owlbear from an "N"? I have a couple of ideas, but they might be lame.

Nice! Fingers crossed for the .zip. Seems like a large, complete set. I'm sure there are game devs out there that will really appreciate this =)

Looks like large amounts of work over the years. CC is an awesome nod to the community, but this deserves some more appreciation. Maybe post it on itch.io / gumroad / something so people can at least leave you an optional tip for some beer? =) Alsoposting to sites with gamedev resources come to mind. OpenGameArt is a must, and there are some others out there :)

Thanks Ravenmore.

I've now added a page with a link to all of the sprites (841 of them so far), which should be downloadable. Let me know if there are any issues with that. I will at some point create sprite sheets so you can download all of the sprites in one go.

I think OpenGameArt requires all art to be free for even commercial use - which I don't want. I'm happy for anyone to use it in free games, but if you want to use it in a commercial game, contact me first to discuss.

I'll be slowly adding more sprites and requests are always welcome (albeit acted upon verrrry slowly....)

Enjoy!

You got a real knack for this kind of work, and I like the ascii inspired style on the sprites. :)

I'm getting the same message as Ravenmore, with the blog is invite only thing. Is this intended?

Ditto for me, I'm signed in to blogspot actually, but am getting the invite-only message. I'd be curious to check 'em out though.

My favorite tileset that I've used for Nethack was the "absurd" set, I don't know who made it originally though.
