This is an important victory for me - I tried to keep the scummy techniques to a minimum, in preparation for 1.2.0.
So: no stair hopping, no gremlin bombing, no large scale herb farming - just those I've found and stabilized, no excessive abuse of banshee in the forest - although a few items were generated.
Started off with 30 St and 35 To - very nice.
SMC -> Fortress. One vault with some useful items, some herbs and N altar.
Sipped from a pool and got elvish wine then -deth -invis -para -corruption then it dried out. Having permanent invisibility from now on pretty much meant I did not drink any other pools for the rest of the game, just didn't want to risk losing it.
Lots of running between CoC, FLV and Terrinyo region of caves, mostly due to altars and shops.
Cleared PC and VD. At level 11 and with only SI generated, I had a chance to precrown but eventually decided it was too tedious waiting around for monsters to sacrifice, and moved on to graveyard.
Lots of altars were generated during this game, probably as many as 6 in CoC alone, 2 in UD, 2 in VD, 1 in PC, only one chaotic which was quickly converted.
Perion in TotHK. Acid vortex took away my wand of cold and a few other items, I went back.
Cleared pyramid, swapped perion for AMW, learned bridge building since I had a hatchet and got some logs. Building 4 bridge sections to the island at skill lvl 19 was a nasty business - even with my considerable carry weight, I had to go back and get more logs. Finally destroyed the skeletal king, got the ring and moved on. Time was beginning to grow short as it was around 85 days then.
CoC: blink dogs eaten, scroll of teleportation as well as wand (2) found, I cleared DF at around lvl 12 - got Wyrmlance and eternium two-handed sword which I used for the rest of the game (interchangeably).
Eventually I got to L+ around D20 then found my first meaningful vault (lesser) - ettins/giants. Black Thumb dropped here, though it was useless. Gathering the gold and selling items allowed me to get crowned with Skullcrusher, somewhere between lvl 13-16.
Considering the damage and weapon proficiency, I decided to stay with eternium two-hander. With mighty blow it still dealt superior damage and I had no problems getting through monsters, plus I had no decent shield for the left hand to use with skullcrusher.
Khelly had to die, I had no AoLS or wish, deeper in I found potion shop with lots of water and a few lesser mixed vaults that dropped a lot of different items, one of which turned out to be a wand of wishing (5).
Got 7LB, GoGS, 3 scrolls of chaos resistance and find weakness. Decided to keep the other two wishes for a later time, which turned out to be one of the best decisions I made in this game.
With two rings of ice and plenty of fireproof blankets, I went to ToEF and cleared everything on the top level. I was around lvl 17 before I went in, got lvl 18 quickly and eventually lvl 22 after I left.
AMW and helm of mental stability kept confusion problems at minimum, I was confused once or twice. Wyrm was down to severely damaged using dragon slaying quarrels, then got a tremendous blow and died.
Earlier I tested the usefulness of Wyrmlance and decided it was less effective with pole arms at lvl1 vs lvl 11 with two-handed that I already had, so wyrmlance was not used.
With +10 strength from orb, I got to 55 St and it was really nice from now on.
Went to gremlin cave and killed ~2k gremlins but leveled weapon skills in pole arms to 9, clubs & hammers to 11, two-handed to 12, bows to 8 and crossbows to 9.
Around this time ~100 days into the game, corruptions started to become a problem. I had 5 SoCRs so I was safe for a while.
Deeper in CoC, I got my first GUV. Now, being a 12 year old troll, that was certainly a risk due to so many ghosts and ghost lords. I had around ~50 arrows of undead slaying and roughly the same amount of quarrels. Fortunately this was a "lesser" greater undead vault - only one emp lich and around 10 kings. At some point meleeing lots of blue Gs and Zs as well as a multitude of summons, I was aged by some ghost lord - all the way to old. I teleported out, looked at my inventory - one potion of youth. Drank it then used the WoW charge for more - got 3. Drank 2 and got back to 12 years and returned to clear the vault, supercareful from now on. Eventually I succeeded, mostly with undead slaying projectiles, only to find that the prize was... Nature's Friend. At that point I had tower crystal shield [13, 4] and plenty of resistances/immunities, so the shield was completely useless. I lost lots of time and got ~4 corruptions and 2 levels.
Deeper in, more corruptions came, greater red dragon vault gave me whirlwind and 3 levels as well as lots of wands, potions, rings and items in general, including RoDS and wand of destruction.
Water and Air temples - no problems.
Another GUV came around D42, this one looked like the water temple in layout, but had 12 or so emperor liches inside. One of them summons ghost kings and I accidentally melee one of them - got to very old. Had to use the last wand wish for potions of youth and used the one I had from earlier wishing, and still was left middle-aged. I gave up after killing two more emp liches and spending most of my time on the level being confused, despite AMW, helm of mental stability and ring of clear mind. Too bad when I used wand of item detection and found } there in the corner. Later deducted it was Sun's Messenger... it was just not possible to clear that vault with this char, not with emperors at very experienced, kings at highly.
Some of the summons had corrupting attacks and the number of my corruptions went to the K letter. Removed them all with 4 SoCRs but was down to only one potion of cure corruption.
Earth temple was a bit more tedious, lots of tremendous blows brought elementals and grues down but I got new corruptions, all the way to E. Used my RoDS to wish for more SoCRs and got only 2.
Another RoDS dropped in BDC, which wasn't too difficult with wyrmlance and slaying ammo (ran out of dragon slaying there).
Mana temple was surprisingly easy, more so than earth temple. Nurgy went down quickly with humanoid slaying and final touch with tremendous blow.
Potion of uselessness gave me bracers of war - finally something more decent than the damn greater vaults could give.
Then I found out that my wand of destruction was somehow destroyed and I had to clear all the balors on D50.
Enter D50: You sense a certain tension. Fun. Used RoDS to wish for SoCRs again and again only got 2.
I cleared the northern level first, pulled. Used lots of booze to charge wand of death and slay chaos servants, wizards and plague bearers. WMoPCs went down with jelly slaying but many had to be meleed. Went to the southern lever and sadly got a successful surrounding check and opened the main chamber. Momentarily 3 balors showed up. I already had 11 corruptions and had to be careful with those guys. So I went for hit & run tactics using ~55 demon slaying arrows.
When the last two balors came at me at the same time, I had to open a door at the end of the corridor... and found the tension room, 7x6, with emperor lich, quickling queen and greater earth elemental 2 squares away. Some other nasty monsters were also there. Didn't notice me though so I teleported out. Finished the balors and discovered that Fisty has not moved from the gate. That only happened when I got closer. He needed a bit more love but eventually went down to slaying ammo. Pulled the other lever, cleared the wizards and WMoPCs from the level and went back. Last thing to do was unicorn quest to remove corruptions - I had them all the way to letter P, including some nasty ones like stiff muscles. Anyway a very enjoyable game.
A notable thing: at some point after reading a scroll of education gave me concentration skill. Eventually got that to 100, same as literacy. With 32 learning and 33 willpower, I was certain that I could read and learn at least some spells. I was wrong - even spellbooks of light/darkness simply disappeared or stunned me or blinded...
