Hey all, I woke up this morning and my roommate shouted across the hall, "Have I got an ADOM character to show you!" Note he is not an experienced player, rather a recruit of mine from around the time of the crowd-funding campaign. I looked at his screen and saw an instance of ADOM, and one of Notepad with the following:

reminder from your f*&#ed up self,

your charchter has the following-
death ray resistance
paralyzation restistance
teleportation
teleportation control
and u got a wish,

all from the same pool

He explained he was playing a hurthling chaos knight, and had drunk 13 times from this very pool and got a total of three wishes. I am inclined to believe him, as he is wearing red dragon scale mail (+14 PV even), a tower eternium shield, and had a mace of destruction plus two spares. Have a nice day, everyone.

Time to start betting on that YASD

Quick, does the color of the pool match the PC's eye color?!

What about intrinsic lucky and Fate smiles, plus ankh, plus two blessed rings of luck?

I like how he took note of it. I tend to play too fast to stop and write down interesting events :o

Character was L8, had lucky and Fate smiles from the pool, no special piety or luck items. I thought to report a "luck bug", but it was P10.

Do not report, pools would finally be worth it :P

@edit

weren't those drunk at character's birthday by any chance?

I once made a blessed PC with intrinsic +Luck +Fate, the ankh, two blessed rings of luck and Ma 99 drink Darkforge dry, removing dooming as necessary, to verify that. I noticed no difference from usual results. But hey, maybe I should have swapped one of the rings for the RotMC, wielded Purifier and worn True Strength :p

Luck modifiers have no effect on pools. Eye colour is, AFAIK, an unproved (probably false) urban legend.

I was kidding about the eye color thing, I think that's a legend. But urban? No. I'd classify it as an internet legend. *solemn nod*

I think the best ADOM-related complete fabrication Internet legend I've read was meeting Thomas Biskup when you enter level 2000 of the ID.

No one ever was doomed several times in a row from a pool when the closest altar is around 5 in-game days to reach? I know I was.

I love those times when one travels across ancardia, gets undoomed, travels back to df, and the very first sip is doom again.

I love them most when there is "flickering lights" room on the way. Though none of the 3 trespasses were letal.

Ever walked through a dark room and suddenly felt as if that wasn't a good idea twice in a row? I have.

Once I managed to actually get eaten by a grue. Imagine that.

Yeah, flickering light rooms are scary as hell when you're doomed.

torch/amulet of light worn will negate the effect [as in, give stable lighting]

True, but not always available, esp. early in the game.

I only drink from pools in early game if I really don't care for the character's survival :P

tbh. I hardly drink from pools at all lately, gear and corpses are much more reliable source of resistances, wishes and other effects. Last time I went poolsipping was to get AoLS for Khelly for the Ultras

I never drink from pools, unless I'm playing a boring PC tempting me to Shift+Q and there's one around. Most intrinsics are provided by guaranteed items and artifacts. -Acid is nearly guaranteed by the anthill in PC:2. Amulets of free action and petrification resistance are fairly common. Wishes are good, but the chance of getting them from a pool instead of cursing, dooming or losing hard-earned resistances is very slim, which makes the whole ordeal nor worth it for me.
