YAVP #3: Troll Assassin

Win # 3.

Started as a Candle Troll Assassin. Excellent skillset and very good in the early game. Nice combo, but I wouldn't rush play a Troll again as they're only good in the early game.

Took druid quest, dove SMC->UD straight away and found a pair of worn boots(!)--turned out to be 7LB as expected when I was able to test them later. UD was not too dangerous for a candle troll, but I ran from mixed vaults.

Went straight to dwarftown so I could use the altar to test the boots. On CoC: 10 I found Executor laying on the ground in a jelly vault. More absurd luck, although as an Assassin I had 50% chance (iirc) of getting a humanoid slayer as a crowning gift later.

Lured the Old Barbarian back to puppy cave, but I guess I pushed him around one too many times and he went hostile. So, no courage quest once again. I got doomed by a karmic lizard on the way back from the druid quest and I foolishly tried to melee Hotzenplotz while doomed before I went back to Dwarftown. He criticalled me for 104 damage in (127-23) one turn and I regained my senses and killed him with missiles after healing up.

Did all the midgame quests easily in prep for TOEF. Got 4 SoCR from the Mystic. Pool drank in Darkforge and got AOLS to save Khelly. TOEF once again wasn't too hard, but I only had a fireproof blanket thanks to the Ancient Dwarf.

After TOEF, I got the ring of the master cat and raced through the rest of the CoC using teleportitis. My ring of djinni summoning got smashed by a ceiling trap in the Earth Temple. My char was pretty weak for the Mana Temple, so Before Mana Temple I got the Shield of Raw Steel and used it throughout the endgame. Awesome shield if you have the spare chaos removal to use it. I laboriously cleared Mana Temple(I HATE CHAOS WIZARDS) and didn't have a /destruction, so I had to clear D:50 the hard way. I entered at XL 27, but ended up gaining seven levels slaughtering Balors and various chaos thugs with virtual impunity. In the end, I found a wand of destruction on the ground and made an early exit. GG

If it matters to you, if you use those SoCR before leaving the chain, it will substantially improve your score...

Thanks. I was hoping to actually win with a sub-XL30 char, but this was impossible without a wand of destruction to circumvent the Balors.

I don't pay any attention to score. That said, in hindsight iirc one can be transformed into a writhing mass of primal chaos if you get too many corruptions, so I probably cut it too close. I'm constantly reminded of how much I don't know about the game yet.

You weren't in too much danger of that. You need to have basically all corruptions before you get transformed (so like 18)... just by keeping yourself from getting poison hands and stiff muscles using your SoCR would probably be enough to keep you safe.
