Entering chaos gate as a L+

Do we need to be extremely corrupted or not? Tried googling, but apparently I'm too intoxicated for that stuff. And I don't think this forum has too much discussion going on so I'm probably not committing a mortal sin asking :). I remember reading from somewhere that we lose the champion status if we enter the gate while not extremely corrupted.

I've gone through the gate once L+ but it was years back.

Also I realize I'm not even close yet (ToeFF is next) and will likely perish because of hubris. The rng has been favorable, but has also been trying to kill me all the time. 3 wishes so far (one unused) but also tons of gorgons.. lucked out on 2 breaths so far.

I haven't fetched the crown yet, but I do have the medal. Now If I only found a spellbook of lightning bolt I could maybe wish for the emperor and bolt away since I got the spell from \oWonder..


e: I'm asking because my last one was UNE and my scrolls were pretty low in the end and this time the mystic didn't give me any (and no 100 deaths so no bug temple either). ALthough I think L+ gets a lot less corrupted over time, yes?

e2: also, first 2 corruptions: acid blood & tough scales. not complaining :]

You do not need to be extremely corrupted to enter the gate as L+. L+ does have slightly reduced corruption rates as well.

alright. Almost died at the casino. Robes of resistance + a bunch of useful potions.. just couldn't be arsed to grind the gold so I aggroed and was left with 80/4xx after first turn.. Left the shopkeeper to his ravings and advanced onwards. Still no chaos crown (day 106, got slb's too late for 90d) and only a few dragon slaying quarrels. I do have a lot of familiar summoning scrolls though. Meh, this just seems like such an easy ultra but you never know..

e: just scribed a scroll of education. 10 mana. 10?!? I guess mindcrafters have some serious issues scribing stuff, since IIRC it's like 5 mana for a ?oCR (not going to try what it's for me atm).

ee: l41 atm, all orbs, ACW down etc. Dunno what to do, need 4 levels and can't handle greater molochs easily. I did spot a mithril long sword of penetration @ casino though.. maybe pump it up and wish for emperor, dunno. Gotta get some zz from adom now->

Blue dragon caves gives a boatload of xps. It's on your way anyway.

You should be able to handle greater molochs if you use the so-called "hack&back" technique. Let the greater moloch advance until it is standing next to you, hit it once, then retreat one step. Repeat until the moloch is dead. They will never be able to hit you. Especially if you make the wish in the barbarian's glade, you always have escape routes there (I assume you have some source of water breathing to swim easily).

Purifier is perfect for killing them, it slays demons. It might even work better than the sword of penetration.

I dunno what I'm doing wrong, but I always take some hurt when killing stuff that way :p But might aswell go for it..

e: then again I have wyrmlance so I could grind the blue dragon caves for a while. But I have some really cool/nice/useful corruptions atm and only 8 or 7 scrolls left.. but then again I have that writing set [5] and not much use for mana tbh.

didn't notice your post, but yeah. Only downside is the corrupting nature of that place.. but I think I'm going to grind 4mil there because of loot (if I get another wish it's going to be SoCR)

I wouldn't want to lose the mana. Greater Telekinetic Blast is so good to have (and you need mana for it). In fact, if you're afraid of taking on GMs in melee you could use GTB?

I also totally recommend turning all your worthless potions into potions of raw chaos and dipping them into each other on D:1. You get wishes (via PoE) and POGA's. And lots of booze.

Safe? do I just "!" potion of -foo- on crown/medal -> !oRC?

One thing, you need to dip the potions of raw chaos into each other one at a time and ADOM will think you want to dip whole stacks at once. A workaround is to equip one potion into your melee slot and then dip it.

oh, lol. Seems I'm l47. Must've played for some time yesterday while totally drunk. Hmh.. I'm gonna dip some potions anyway, since I'm not comfortable taking on the emperor just yet.

e: woke up at the casino, apparently I killed the shopkeeper for xp yesterday. 2 shopkeepers killed so far (dwarf town, had a weird accident there which aggroed the shopkeeper but no-one else) and avg is 1.65mil so the casino one was pretty valuable :]

e2: uh.. 49 bandits killed (first kill). Time to dive I guess........................

Not scumming. Hell no. I used to do that when I first found adom (thought it was a bug that savefiles were deleted lol) back in I don't even remember when (pre 1.0 anyway) though. Don't even see the point in scumming, as every character is basically a quaranteed win - where's the fun in that? :)

e: adom was also my first roguelike, hence the savefile disappearing: must be a bug - thing.
