Really good roll, but items are lacking. True Berserk damage is more then enough to one-hit almost anything, but in case of misses you would take hits, and until Healing skill they cant be easily restored.

Talents - Alert, Miser
First kill in Lawenilothehl - bandit, second kill assassin - dropped some kind of blanket. Picked Pick Pockets, went to SMC to retreive the blanket, because more blankets - the better it is! Found wild cat in the second room, lured her to spear trap, luckily one of the spears hit before trap expired. Almost died to fireball trap later, decided to explore further with 10 HP. With some healing from level ups got blanket in last room, on my way out encountered dark sage, luckily he didnt blast me from afar, and even more luckily - he dropped a corpse. Barely escaped SMC, there are bunch of ~lvl 6 monsters, stairs are pretty far away, i dont recommend to return there until some decent equipment.

Went to check PC, on level 2 got blocked by the ants, didnt risk to fight them (1 PV...), went to VD, got level 4, nothing interesting on the first level, went back to kill Kranach before its too late, got him pretty quickly, but he critically shot me to low HP again. Got 3000 gold and returned to VD:1 to find healer, when 2000 turns hit.

Pickpockets status - only 5-10 monsters.

Plan for next players - Get Healing/Treasure Hunter asap, but be safe. You have drake spit and plenty of food for tough monsters. I hope there is altar somewhere in VD/PC, clear them (except VD:7, really dangerous for now) and venture through UD into CoC.

Claim.

Done. This is very nice character. I dove immediately down the VD, bypassing most of the levels until VD:4. Restored HP with Jharod, then continued dive to VD:7. Started to lure Yrrigs back. Almost got in big trouble when a wererat spawned between me and the stairs and started summoning, but I was fortunately able to clear them with spit and Yrrigs didn't do too much damage to me. Learned Healing skill, then went and cleared the remainder of the dungeon. VD:4 has a neutral altar, so I've statused all of our items. Found a very nice [+3,+4] medium shield and Yrrigs had a hatchet of lightning that I've been using. Found enough armor that I think we're better off not using true berserk anymore. Cleared all of the floors. We are standing next to the altar on VD:4. Jharod is in the southeast corner if you need him for some reason. There's a large pile of junk items on/next to the altar. I guess if next player wants to lug them to Lawentheliol to sell they can, but probably not worth it. Our piety level is inner peace. We are probably strong enough to clear the PC without trouble, or head to the CoC.

Claimed! This guy shall make a power-start into the day :-)

e: Yeah, what a powerhouse! Easily emptied the PC with it's random vault (fire vortex was killed from a distance, two spider factories were no problem) and got some nice additions to the equipment (higher metal flail, armor and large shield). Explored the DDL (a river did not stop Drake) on the way to the CoC, where he found a co-alligned altar on the very first level. No noticable situations of big danger for this bipedaled weapon of mass destruction ;-)

e: forgot to mention that I found a cloak of invisibility.

PROGRESS:

- Read a blessed scroll of identify. Ring of damage, wand of paralization.
- Headed straight down to Dwarftown in order to get the random monster quest.
- D:1 Clicking sounds.
- D:4 Arena.
- Ate spider corpse. Poison resistance.
- D:6 C Altar.
- D:7 Big Room. Some patches with spenseweed and stoma are stable.
- D:8 Got the si. Lost a scroll of identification and a light cloak on its trap. Sorry about that :D
- D:9 Horizontal river. I hate this... At least we have 81 Swimming. Level up. Raised Herbalism x3.
-D:10 Dwarftown. The quest monster is a lizard man. I take the portal quest as well. I identify my inventory. We got a girdle of carrying, a cloak of protection +3, a second ring of damage. Bought a heavy crossbow of accuracy, a wand of door creation and a scroll of darkness.
-D:11 Ate an ant corpse. Acid resistance. Oops, now I realize we only have 42 healing. Sorry about that. The random monster wasn't here. I come back to the upper levels in order to fully explore them and, luckily, find a lizard man. In this level there is a lightning vortex closed in a room. The room can be identified because it has two quarrels on the floor.
- D:7 The turn 14000 caught me getting to the up stairs in the big room. I'm wearing the invisibility cloak at the moment. Good luck!

Claiming! This looks like a good character.

According to the Dwarf, he's not yet killed a Lizard Man. Stopped off to cash in some junk first, though. Accidentally rusted some quarrels, unfortunately, but getting them de-rusted once the lizard man is dead (a quick jump to the big room and back out). Found out one of our rings was a Ring Of Teleport Control. Slapped that puppy on right away.

Ascended to the arena to get myself some lizards. Again: renamed all the ratlings in case someone comes back in need of munchies. Alas, ran into a Wild Cat face-first and one-hitted it as I was walking through. So Kitty Karma has been ruined. I devoured its corpse in complaint.

There's a cave lion wandering loose on D6.

Lightning Lizard just at the base of the stairs in d12 destroyed our Scroll Of Vermin Control. Did a fair amount of damage as well, but nothing unsurvivable. No corpse. Tease. There's also a mixed vault on d12. Never broke into it, so be very careful if you're exploring down that way.

d13 has the two stairs down very close to one another. The stairs in the dark lead to The Forest, while the ones directly across frmo the stairs up lead to DH. I took Dwarven Halls first. The stairs from DH1 to DH2 are right next to one another. However, there's an Ancient Karmic Dragon at the base of DH2. There was also a Troll Berserker, but I went Invisible and Coward and snuck away from it effortlessly.

Took the forest through instead. No problems here. Just invisibility through the trees. Wandered around d15 a bit and took out a beehive. Checked the staircase to find that the DH stairs are very, very close together. Used my invisible cloak and snuck right on by. So the dragon is still down there if you're feeling daring.

Turned in the quest at Dwarftown and took the Ogre quest next. Found an undead tension room (zombies, skeletons, and ghouls) down there to destroy while I was at it.

Completed the ogre quest completely, but accidentally overplayed by about 88 turns. Still, ogre quest done, and inventory full of ogre-found crap.

Suggestion for the next player: turn in your ogre quest and get the next one, check out what was pulled from the ogres, sell off the junk (there should be a considerable amount), and consider the arena. We don't have any anti-cat abilities, though, so you may want to wait on it just in case. Kitty karma might already be blown, but no need to make The Cat Lord unhappier than he already will be.

Except that if enough are killed The Cat Lord will give only 1XP, and yet be almost irredeemably powerful. There's a bit of a balance there! IMO.

Claim, claim, claim the overpowered drake.

You need to kill an amazing number of cats before that happens, Kurasu. I killed about 50 of them one game while hunting slugs and didn't notice anything special about the cat lord.

Started out by munching all the ogre corpses while starved but didn't gain a single strength increase. :( Did the Arena and finished Griffyard (had no digging tool so the sword of Nonnak is still there).
One of the undead on the upper level dropped a lovely blue dragon scale mail.
Returned to dwarftown and got rewards, then talked again to fight the greater demon. Sacced it on the altar. As far as I noticed the only NPC that was killed was a dwarven child.
I purged our inventory and stashed the following things in the Ogre cave: climbing set, big sum of money and 40 cooked lizards.
Then I went to retrieve the wand of teleportation with a scroll of item detection. It is the ironwood wand.

Killing one or two golems will bring us to level 13 and open up the pyramid.

Cliamed. . ..

Relatively useless turn and a lot of wasted time in wilderness. Got courage quest (at 3 or 4 bandits), killed some more in the wilderness (11 now), identified wand of teleportation - 0 charges. well... Killed one golem, explored rest of the level, got 13 and easily done Pyramid, went back to dwarftown to retreive gold, then back to Lawenilothehl, purchased a lot of keys, learned a lot of skills, lured several beggars out of town (they are meeting us everythere now), raided Darkforge. Nothing of interest except two eternium two-handed swords, however i'd not recommend them because of low PV.

Drake still cant kill golems fast enough, so he takes 20-30 HP loss for every golem, and his regeneration is too slow for full clear. Killed several near the stairs before the raid, though.

Suggestions to future players:
1) Gremlin Cave (fluff balls), while we are near it. Drake didnt have enough charges of door creation, enough holy water, enough scroll of identify, any wands of cold, or anything to help him progress. Noone seems to use Pick Pockets either. Hey, you are missing A LOT of loot and pick pockets is really good in 1.1.1! They are even hotskilled on 1!
2) Then pacifying Big Room for spensweed, LOTS of spensweed. Sadly, there are no morgia/marelion squares, but you could always use holy water. If you have enough holy water, ofcourse. There is good square near the top, which could easily be transformed into morgia/marelion with only one successful holy water use. 18 Wi is... acceptable, but 25 Wi is a lot better. A LOT.
3) Then poolsip from Darkforge pools until wish/until 3+ non-obtainable intristics/until they are all empty:( Good intristics to hunt: -Para(!), -Petr, -Death, +Invi and -Slee/-Stun as a nice bonus. If you have 3 out of 4 intristics from first list - consider stopping and abandoning pools even if you dont have wish yet. Remove dooming instanly on D:1 altar, ofc (dont forget to add piety with herbs from the Big Room)

Then its either CoC dive to wall of flames or Tomb of High Kings in hope of finding a wish there. Pool wish chance is ~50-70&#37;, gremlins... as high as you wish. Its just faster then ID farming in this version. ToHK - well, last resort for finding a wish/amulet.

I don't think we really need to scum very much with a character this powerful, IMHO, but if someone wants to do it, I guess they can.

Getting crowned with Vanquisher would be nice. That's really all we need to steamroll the rest of the game.

Some farming now could save a lot of time/turns later, and he lacks in basic consumables.

Atleast he should try pools/ToHK before crowning. They have comparable difficulty to already explored regions, they could provide wish for saving Khelavaster (and 6 SoCR!), and they do not require any additional artifacts. Imho, crowning now is crowning slightly too soon.

Claimy. Don't worry, I will be a good boy and not hurt our ultra options. :D

Edit: turn over. I killed a few more golems and sipped most of the pools, undooming whenever needed.

There are 5 pools left in Darkforge. We did not get a wish, but we gained the following intrinsics (didn't keep track of resistances):
- teleport control
- teleportitis (not really, but we gained that corruption)
- paralysis resistance
- death ray resistance
- see invisible too, IIRC

We have about 30k gold left IIRC and enough piety to undoom. Next player gets to decide between sipping more pools or not.

I also think Waldenbrook is a little bit dead but I swear it's not my fault!

edit: I will describe in some more detail what I did.
Used the two hander to kill the golems blocking the way to the pools, healing up in the wilderness as needed.
Then I sipped until doomed. Went back to Griffyard to pick up the sword of nonnak. Then back to DT and sold nearly all items to Wally for about $80k. Pickpocketed Waldenbrook for good measure. Unfortunately he noticed. Killed him using darkness + the fact he never fights back when he is panicked and cornered. Sacced gold to gain piety, then drained more pools.

Claim.

Busy turn. First thing I do is sac our remaining gold + big punch on DT altar. Get crowned with best possible result: Vanquisher and =Fire. I visit the Dwarven Mystic, but unfortunately somebody decided to kill the shopkeeper before visiting the mystic, so we get nothing from him. Oh well. I eventually decide that I will head back out of CoC. If we had a fireproof blanket, I'd try for the ToEF at this point, but since we don't I play a bit conservatively. First I head to DF and clear out the remaining golems. One of them drops an ordinary ring that is an RoDS. Nice. Dive back in CoC, save Khelly. Continue down to D:20, where I find the Water Temple. There was also a threat room of ogre lords, and a dark room. Very convenient. Ogre lords only gave +1 St, regrettably. Killed the snake and snagged the Water Orb. Made it back to DT with his corpse--no rotting yet--before I ran out of turns.

Our stash is currently in Waldenbrook's shop, btw, including our SoCR and books from Khelly.

Suggestions for next player:
We are probably strong enough for an immediate attack on the ToEF. We have drakeling speed + vanquisher, so killing the ACW should be very easy. Unfortunately, we'll have to use the water orb a bunch of times for healing since we can't bring much beyond our worn gear in.

RoTHK is still a on our to-do list, but we don't have a wand of cold. Searching the cavernous levels for that, an ogre magus, or an ice vortex could take care of that.

Most of the levels between D:16-20 are unexplored, as well as all of the ones beyond (actually, most of the CoC is unexplored, really). Plenty to check there. Our platinum amulet is balance, IIRC, if you want to try your luck digging some graves.

[edit]Mind that our DV and PV are both fairly low at this point, so a bit of caution will be needed in some intense fights.

okay one more claim for today

1997

Turned in the water snake corpse for a mottled potion.

Went to the tower of eternal flames. We had only got a single pickaxe. I scouted first. The third level was blocked by a threat room with dark elven princesses. Killing them all would have taken way too long. Thankfully, stealth worked and I was able to close the door without being noticed.

Went back to get my pickaxe. Bypassed the dark elves with teleportitis. The pick axe luckily didn't get destroyed and I was able to breach the wall. Killed the wyrm (took two hits), picking up two corruptions in total from healing with the water orb. The first one was the dreaded mana battery, so I cleared them asap. Picked up our stuff and dived. We are now in the Banshee level, ears are plugged.

I suggest bypassing the EG with teleportation.

Claim. Down and down we go.

We're nearing the end now. I kill Banshee and dive down. Nothing too eventful in the middle sections D:23-30. I pass the Eternal Guardian with teleport. Get to Casino, do a bit of gambling and grab the loot there. There's a few nice pieces--some better armor, and an RoDS, most notably. I zap stun ray at the shopkeeper under darkness, hit him until he panics. I follow him into one of the corners, hit him a couple more times to drop him. +800k experience. Descend. Important note: D:31 has two up staircases on it. One will lead back to the Casino. The other will be the shortcut. If you take the shortcut, you'll have to get by the Eternal Guardian again. I marked the Casino stairs with 400k extra golds. We got our second corruption, regenerative skin. I don't care much about this one, but our Dx is pretty low so it might be worth removing. I leave to next player.

Descended a couple more times. Killed Bugs. Cat lord level is D:35. He was right near the stairs, so I shot some webs and thumped him to death while he was stuck in the webs. +800k xps. There is a convenient neutral altar on the cavernous level D:36ish. Air Temple is on D:37 or 38. Did not attempt to breach. There is a Greater Undead Vault on D:40, which I took a pass on. There are two armor artifacts in it, which would be very nice to get, probably, but not worth the risk with a low lifespan character with low Wi. D:42 has a greater giant vault. I start to clear it when my time runs out. There should be two weapon artifacts in it. I also killed a greater titan on this level which netted me a few hundred thousand more xps, so we've earned 8 levels in 4000 turns.

Suggestions for next player:
-Finish the giant vault, train up St if possible.
-Think about anything you might like to wish for. GoGS would be my suggestions. 7lbs aren't so useful for us because we're pretty fast anyway. Don't have other particularly good ideas at this point.
-Clear Air/Earth/Mana Temples.
-Win the game.

Oh, I just noticed I'm still wearing the AMW from the cat lord. We have a better armor available in our inventory.

Then I say: claimed!

e: Holy crap, dudes, almost got us killed... two times :-o One big danger was another greater Titan, which punched us down to only little more than 100 Hp... how the hell did you kill the first one without being hit even once? Anyway, luckily Drake managed to take him down with giant slaying amunition in the end. Second even more dangerous situation was when clearing a mixed tension room. The last two enemies were a master swordsman and a greater water elemental. Was already quite injured, but didn't think that those two could be too much of a problem... well, got disarmed by the swordsman in the very same round where the elemental critically hit Drake down to about 50 HP... almost peed into my pants, honestly! So glad I got out of there alive! There were some more really dangerous situations like a fight against a quickling queen while fleeing from a berserker emperor, and I did some very stupid things like running streight into an acid vortex, but anyway, in the end I am glad that I also have got some good news: Made a couple of additional levels, increased strength by 2 (well, actually three, but I lost one point to a greater daemon), cleared air and earth temple (both guardian corpses are cooked withing our inventory at uncursed status... not quite sure if we actually need the potions) and, well, found some nice items like the bracers of war and a girdle of giant strenght ;-) So better think of a new wish!
I also skipped another greater undead vault... didn't even check the artifacts because I think it would be too much of a bad idea to try it... and currently Drake is heading streight for the mana temple.

Suggestions for my successor: Finish the mana temple, maybe get those three potions from the druid if you feel like, then go for it and finish the game!

Nicely done clearing Air/Earth. And bracers of war + GoGS is fantastic for this character. If you look on my screenshot of D:42, you'll notice there's a small patch of darkness in the bottom right. There's where I killed my greater titan ;) Fighting them straight up in melee is pretty hard. As bad as trying to tank a greater moloch.

I do not recommend bringing the corpses back to the Druid due to the Eternal Guardian problem. We should have enough corruption removal. Worse comes to worse, we can wish for more.

Looking forward to the video :) Sounds like an exciting turn.

[edit]Gordon, FYI for future games, the artifacts in that greater vault configuration are hidden in secret rooms. That why you couldn't find any more. Note the four projections sticking up from the center area on the map below.

[edit2]You got stiff muscles right near the end of video1 when you were entering the Earth Temple, btw.

Also, knife of endurance in the missile slot does not increase To, but does give extra health regeneration. That's why you were regenerating so much while you were fighting the giants.

I haven't played with Drake for a while. Claiming! Going back up to pick up the missed artifacts and then more diving.

I can never resist checking out artifacts (except when they're in Greater Undead Vaults; I left those totally alone as well).

There was a hive on UL: 1 that I kicked out. Gelee royal can be worth it.

Was reminded by GordonOverkill about needing to get rid of stiff muscles, so I did that. It took two scrolls to do it, though; apparently there was enough corruption on me to need to get rid of scales as well. So we're now down to just Teleportitis.

Braced myself, checked my gear, and broke into the artifact rooms. Craploads of gold, craploads of gold, craploads of gold, and... a level up. The item inside was Scorched Spear. Obviously not as good as Vanquisher, but it *is* a one-handed weapon, which may come in handy if we need to use a weapon and shield for a while.

For the record, 'Vanquishing' things never gets old. *EVER*.

Put our knife back in the missile slot for now, and continued to dive.

Lost a point of armor to a corruptor on UL: 2. I'm starting to really hate those things.

Went chasing after some 'THUMB' noises on UL: 3, hoping for a moloch for extra XP, but a Lich King made me change my mind.

Made it to Sharad-Wador, but with our gear as good as it presently is, I think I'm going to ignore it. It would give some good levels, but I feel the chance of destruction isn't really worth it.

There's a river on d:47. I teleported just to the other side of it, only to find what looks as if it may be a mixed vault. An Ancient Black Dragon dissolved a bunch of stuff, but nothing valuable enough to make me cry. ... fortunately, after killing the things off, I came to realize it wasn't a vault. Just a number of strong enemies packed into one small room. Crisis mostly averted. Something started 'thumb'ing as I headed for the stairs, but I didn't want to have to try and find a way across the river so continued on. Fortunately, it found me; a Titan shot at me as I was headed down. Killed it, ate its corpse, but no gains in stats.

D: 48! I gained to level 33 as I was going through the grues, and picked up Defensive Fighter. Level 34 followed swiftly after. And... accidentally misreading which altar I was on, I used the Air orb instead of dropping it into the hole. Unholy Aura is a bad roll on corruptions, but with the time we've got left, it should be fine.

That was the moment I realized we hadn't done Mana yet. D'OH! Time to go back up.

Made my way to UD: 5, and there's a nice little altar right there. Sacced my way to 'Very Close' again just in case I should need it. Also got the 'Very Light' corruption. For now, I'm leaving that as it is. It's not unduly bad, and holding onto scrolls in case something *serious* pops up would be wise.

Made my way down to the Mana Temple. My pickaxe broke just as I was about to enter the temple, so I had to use our wand of digging to get in. I remembered Booze this time, so no charge-wrenching needed. Worked my way up to the Archmage with care, zapped out our Wand Of Light, took quite a lot of damage, but managed to pull it off. Lost some strength and perception due to the melee, and got some corruption which I cleared (You rage!). Gained two levels from the mage alone. Picked up Dodger while I was at it. There's a mixed tension room down there, but I left it alone; I didn't feel like bothering with the Stone Ooze I know to be in there.

Ended my turn ascending once more to the temple. I'd say one more person! Who wants to be the one to close the gate and start the journey home?

Sorry _Ln_, but I just can't stand the tedium of clearing a GUV with a melee character, even if he's really strong. Tried that once, gave me a headache.

Once again, I find an unused RoDS in the pack at the start of the turn! :-D

Went to D:50. I donned the ring of invisibility to protect against ghost lords and started vanquishing the armies of chaos. I read the SoFS too and got a balor to fight for me. It killed a few ghosts but then got killed off-screen, probably while fighting one of the balors. Corruption became a bit of a problem, I had stiff muscles and no corruption removal left while fighting the last balors. But not a real life threatening problem. Vanquished the final balors, pulled the levers and left victorious.

Then I went back to Terinyo and did the unicorn quest and told Blub about his mum. Finally, I asked a djinni to resurrect the cute dog for that warm, fuzzy feeling.

Clean, clean the GUV, guys! I don't have time for playing now, but please. +10 Wi from water orb and helm of mental stability should be enough. Do we have a SoFS? A GEE can be used to clean these things with zero trouble.

For interest's sake, I loaded up the previous save of Drake to see how he'd fare against the GUVs. The one on level 40 I managed to clear without too much trouble, though my stats took a bit of a beating. The second one was on level 45, and the monsters were a lot more experienced. I ended up with all of my stats reduced to single digits, extremely old, my entire inventory cursed (or discarded because my St had been reduced so much). If I had made an honest effort to protect my stats, and had bothered to find an altar to make some new holy water, I probably could have finished it. As it was, I cleared about 90&#37; of the second one before getting kill by my To score being reduced to zero. Managed to kill 89 master liches, 55 lich kings, and 2 emperor liches.

I'll post some videos once if you're curious to watch.

I'd like to watch that.

It is telling that someone who cleared the tower without blankets, without the water orb and with stiff muscles can lose to a GUV. To be honest I believe a GUV is never worth it unless you're a spellcaster. The experience you get is extremely lousy, so your only reward is the artifacts (which may turn out to be garbage) plus maybe, hopefully, a few useful other items. In exchange you get confused while being drained into oblivion, death rayed, swimming in a sea of summons.. if you're unlucky some of those summons will be really bad too. All this in a highly corrupting environment. Clearing D:50 is much easier and safer than all that. So the logical order is to do that first to stop background corruption and do the GUV next. But then you might as well forget about it.

I've started your first video and this is certainly not my idea of clearing a GUV :D I may record my try, when I'll have time, but it should be much easier. At least using the trident as a missile weapon (sorry if I missed this).

You will need to go back to Terinyo first, he didn't do the Blub quest yet.
