As JellySlayer said, it was prior to the first 1.2.0 prerelease. Nipon was the first person to make it without falling and post about it here, if I remember correctly.

My last winner also pulled it off (and got every Minotaur Maze staircase right in the first attempt :o), which was pretty cool. I only took a minimal set of items and equipped the ankh and Purifier before climbing down, which I'm sure helped - Luck affects so many things in this game!
