Well, sort of...

I had my level 30 female trollish weaponsmith ask him about experience and the game crashed >_>

When I started the game I figured that since pretty much everything weaponsmiths get after level 12 is gravy a trollish one could do well. When the game started out I got a pretty mixed bag of blessings. A lot more shops were generated in my game than usually show up (got something like 7 shops generated total), and I got a pair of Seven League Boots pretty early on. OTOH after getting the 7LB an angry God dusted my gear and early in the game I got this message for the second time ever:

You shatter the door with a mighty kick! By smashing it you activate the trap protecting the door. Kaboom! The door was booby-trapped...
Suddenly the cat's spirit rises from its lifeless body.
Moaning pathetically, it plunges in to the ground.
you hear a faint echoing roar filled with hate and sorrow!
You are engulfed by the roaring flames!

Other than that the whole game was pretty uneventful. Was blessed with the Bracers of War as a precrown bonus. Cleared everything I could before Khelly without getting access to an AoLS, then got very lucky in Darkforge. Found an adamantium halberd of penetration and got a wish after drinking my way through 5 pools in Darkforge with 3 to go. I also got permanent invisibility. Only close call the whole game was a crit string by a killer bug that brought me to 15 hp, other than that I don't even recall needing to use any healing pots or herbs. Completely cleared the top of the ToEF with just the crown of science, a set of red dragon scale mail, the Bracers of War, and my trusty halberd (couldn't find a ring of ice). At some point I just randomly happened across the Crown of Leadership lying on the ground. After the casino for some odd reason I started getting a lot of 7LB, ended the game with 4 pairs. About the only really foolish thing I did was descend the deep rift 3 times. I hadn't had a character make it this far in a while and didn't really recall exactly how things worked, so I ended up accidentally exiting the rift twice because the stairs to the library were concealed behind a very innocuous secret door.

By the end I had rank 15 in pole arms, 12 in bows, and 10 in crossbows with enough slaying ammunition between the two ranged weapons to make an archer jealous (even had a stack of 25 dragon slaying quarrels I was very happy with). Killed the Ancient Blue Wyrm, Ancient Karmic Wyrm, Great Water Dragon, Minotaur Emperor, cleared the bug cave, Sinister Library, corrupted glade, all of the temples, Multi-headed chaos dragon... blegh!!! I had killed about everything I could think of to kill and was trying to figure out how to gain another 15 levels (12,795,380 xp gained, 27,935,145 left to go) when I asked the dwarven elder about experience as a joke. Had around 70/70 DV/PV in berserking, did about 2d7+73 damage with my halberd and 1d6+60 or so with my bow. Had 205 speed, 59 str, 29 le, 55 to, 49ish dex, 11 wi, 29 ma with a lot of PoGA and other attribute pots as well. I don't think I'll be playing ADOM for a bit now, having it crash so late in the game is really depressing.

Incidentally, I just read that having a high speed lowers the experience you gain. Is this accurate? If so, that really sucks. Seems really, really arbitrary. Would doing things like being bloated, strained, and wearing boots of the slow shuffle increase the xp you gain?

Yeah the extra time you need fighting monsters when you are incredibly slow and chilled out allows you to learn more from killing them or something. All the things you mentioned work well, as does casting the slow monster spell on yourself.

Next time round, with a troll, I would suggest waiting until level 45 before munching on killer bugs and stuff. Or indeed just forget about doing a trollish ultra ending, as they really are much more of a pain in the ass than any other race. They do make rocking weaponsmiths though, agreed.

I'm surprised you managed to get to level 30 with over 200 speed on a troll, actually. I wouldn't bother with ultras on a troll either... tried it once, never, ever again. If you want to go for a fancy ending, I'd do an OCG. Unless you came across a bunch of wishes, you'd probably have to do ID diving for tension rooms of greater molochs to go from 30 to 45 with that speed anyway.

You can increase experience by lowering speed, casting invisible on monsters, and dooming yourself.

I've found Thundarr to be occasionally a bit buggy, myself. I believe he will crash if you try to talk to him while he's panicking from unholy aura, for example. Bad luck that it happened this late :( If it's any consolation, you probably could have cleared D50 in your sleep with this character, so it's essentially a winner.
