Companions (pets) in ToEF

As in the title. What happened to companions there in ADOM v 1.2.0? Are they damaged by the heat or become auto-hostile? I have a very powerfull greater earth elemental and don't want to risk. In last game I summoned a balor and he helped me for some time-untill I cast the mental wave for the first time;)

Pets can be used on levels 1-3. On level 4, they will take fire damage and die unless they are immune. You can lure the ACW to level 3 and kill him with a pet if you want.
