So I've gotten issues since versions after 1.1 that it's kinda tough to get to lvl 50 without wishing for an Emperor Moloch. Has xp gain been nerfed since?

I've cleared the temples plus the blue dragon caves already and only at lvl 32, also 2 greater vaults entirely. Luckily for this run I found a spare Ring of Djinni summoning but what are you supposed to do if the RNG gods hate you?

And before you ask mostly played elves no trolls :P

The "good learner" talent has been fixed. It used to give more experience than it was supposed to. Experience from 'invisible' monsters has been nerfed. I have also noticed a general decline in xp gained from 'bosses'.

P.S. What was your average speed btw?

not sure what version the "at least 1 greater vault" came in but that has a significant impact on being able to get to lvl 50. But yes i agree, it has become more difficult. Previously i would almost always hit level 50 around the mana temple, but i've been finding lately i've got to D50 before hitting level 50.

avg speed was about 110 maybe. *sigh* maybe next time I'll hit the quickling tree after clearing through the mana temple. Thought I doubt that'll get me those 18 extra lvls. I'll just have to wish for molochs.

Stingray: Never used the good learner talent. Seemed like a waste as I never had problems getting to 50 before and rarely played trolls and orcs

I went to D:50 at around level 30 all the time as far as I remember. It took a major windfall - a tension room of wyrms, for instance - for it to be any other way. Then you kill the balors and get to level 50 this way. That's generally the way things go in lategame ADOM.

It's troublesome only if you're planning an ultra, but then ultras are all about doing troublesome things.

^This. If you're going for a regular ending, hitting D:50 in the mid 30s is pretty typical for a non-troll, and the balors will boost you to 50.

do you need to be level 50 to win the game? I got to level 35 by the casino with a gnome wizard. kind of got bored at that point since even though I was a wizard, i was just meleeing everything. I had unlimited castings of the spell that let me carry massive amounts so i tanked up on armor. gnome/wizards are easy if you find a spellbook shop early in the game.

Wizards are easy, full stop.

You don't need to be any level to win the game. In the case of your gnome wizard, it should take you around an hour or so to close the gate. No need to dawdle.

some people just don't kill all monsters. They think there are invisible rewards to not killing Barnabas ~10k, old barbarian ~10k, Waldenbrook ~100k, Sharad Waador ~3M, dwarven children, etc...

There is hidden rewards if you don't kill the dwarven mystic.

Edit - Well, at least while not of chaotic alignment. He gives very little xp 16 or 46 though.

Well, there is the (minor) reward of staying lawful...

I can get lawful fast enough by torturing beggars or drowning Hawkslayer.

EDIT: I just found my new sig.

You know about the Slow Monster trick of slowing yourself to (effectively) double your XP gain for killing monsters while under the influence, don't you? :)
