View Full Version : ADOM 1.2.0 (Most Recent Version): Training with Garth is Ineffective

Hello everyone. I had a question about training with Garth. The first character I rolled up after first downloading the newest version two weeks ago got to the Casino, and got lots of money (obviously). I went to train with Garth, and gave obscene amounts of money to him (500,000 per stat) to train, but each stat only went up once. This was my first legitimate character, so I did not want to risk him dying on account of low stats. However, each stat only went up once. This was not the behavior in ADOM 1.1.1. I tried searching the updates, but could not find any details on whether training was changed in the newest version. Is this the case?

I can see why this would be changed, because it is an insane way to get crazy stats since you have limitless money at the Casino, but I always thought that was Biskup's way of patting you on the back for making it past the insanely difficult early game. Thanks in advance for any help.

Have you read the wiki? It says that the stat change is not always instant unless it is a lot of money. Its full increase is extended over time but can not exceed potential.

If only that was true.

potentials are much harder to raise, potentially garth won't raise potentials now. Or your stats were very high. Oh and casino isn't limitless money any more either (with the corruptions and all)

The guidebook does state that very large amounts of money are enough to raise the potentials. At any rate, only a few, if any, of my stats were at their maximum. That is why each of them went up. In 1.1.1, I know that the amount of money I spent on training (500,000+) should have been enough to keep raising stats at least 4-5 more times (including raising maximums, i.e. "You feel good about your _ potential"). The only reason why this would not be the case would be if 1.2.0 does not allow the raising of potentials no matter how much money is spent.

In my experience Garth does raise potentials in 1.2.0, but I agree he shouldn't.

Edit - Well, pre prerelease 19 anyway. Maybe it was fixed then, if you say it doesn't.

I had my Str maxed at 17 and went and dropped 11 million on Str training with Garth, and 4 levels later, my Str is... 17. I'd be inclined to say that Garth training has been "fixed", just as gremlin bombs have been fixed.

It seems that 50,000 gold gives you enough training to raise any stat up once up to Min(Potential max, 36) - and anything more is a waste.

The Guidebook is also incredibly outdated. It hasn't been updated for years, let alone being updated with the post-Resurrection Project changes.

The wiki is quite slow to be updated as well so there isn't a good information source on recent changes that I'm aware of, other than digging through forum posts.

Um, so short of wishes, is it going to be 'refixed' so that training with Garth can drive limits above potential? Or do we just have to do what Adom players do, 'adjust'? Cursed potions of exchange?

I have general feeling that potions of potential (St etc.) are more plentiful in recent public beta and they give bit more. E.g. blessed gives +3 instead of +2. Might remember that wrong, but I think so.
