Games similar to ADOM?

Are there any games out there with similar ASCII graphics, easy commands, and open world without permadeath?

I recently tried my hands at Tome4, it has a similar "open world" and is very good. It has a lot of in-depth background stories and many interesting classes and powers. (You start out with a lot of them locked, you can unlock them with certain achievements.) It has a default graphic mode but there should be an asci mode setting. It plays a bit differently but the spirit is similar.

It does have one drawback: autosave triggers very frequently, is absurdly slow and you can't turn it off.
