Goody was a young drakeling of the Order of Sssracht, sent out to preach His wisdom to Ancardia. She was sworn to poverty and following Sssracht's word in all things, and so she gladly went out armed only with her faith. However, she soon discovered that the enemies of order were active after having lain dormant for long ages, and so she took Sssracht's cause into her own hands, to strike down the followers of ChAoS and close the demonic passageway opened by Andor Drakon forever...

---

I've always wanted to run a paragon of order but it seemed a little "flat". So I decided that I would make a "holy beggar" character, who would become a paragon of order and not use gold for any purpose (I was too used to picking up gold on sight, so the rules were to drop any gold I accidentally picked up). This seemed perfectly in line with a monk. In addition, I felt it would be fitting if the monk would also refuse to eat humanoid corpses of any kind. She would use unarmed fighting wherever possible (turns out I never had to equip a weapon), and would be required to save Khelavaster.

In all, this rules out shops, stat increases via humanoids (ogres, kobold shamans, an entire giant vault) as well as ratling food. A monk helps here due to the lowered food consumption. Starting as a drakeling, I had to avoid the druid quests (I was paranoid about alignment drop) and I also skipped Kranach because during an earlier attempt I think I saw an alignment drop despite never picking up the reward. Blink dogs could be an issue (and did cause many previous attempts to fail), but luckily none swarmed me before I became lawful after doing the carpenter and puppy quests. I did not use companions to avoid any issues with angering them, and avoided all non-lawful altars even while still neutral (luckily I randomly found two lawful ones).

I was able to get precrowned (scorched spear) and crowned (robes of resistance) in the UD. Once unarmed damage and HP went up, things went fairly smoothly except for a time when I needed a wish (to save Khelavaster) and instead got teleportitis without having teleport control. I did get a wish out of it, and luckily a stray pool in the UC gave me teleport control. Yay!
I carried several instruments for blink dogs (never an issue, luckily) and cats (plentiful). Decided to skip much of the optional content (library, maze) to avoid alignment accidents and started diving down the CoC at about level 22 (and after only about 36 game days, which is MUCH faster than normal for me). Acquired the ring of the master cat and cleared a greater giant vault for xp and boots of the divine messenger.

Finally I had all the orbs and it was time to descend to D 50. For some reason D:49 distracted me, and so I was not expecting the special message I received when entering D:50. Awesome! I equipped the girdle and completely forgot that I am a drakeling and had better warm up before fighting the masses of chaos, so I spent some time wondering why those WMoPC were quite so tough (I realized the problem when checking my speed after getting slowed by one and seeing that it was 38 :-) ). Got the rune-covered trident at the very end, after having killed Fistanarius already. Ah well. I clear out the level, then ascend and get out of the chain before I do something foolish and the girdle squeezes me to death.
I meant to cleanse my corruptions (unicorn quest is not an option I believe) but I forgot.

All in all, it felt like a fun challenge while not being too different from a regular game. I kept a savefile just before leaving the chain.

Cool challenge, congrats at succeeding at it. Well deserved.

Think I'll attempt this someday, because it is so coool. :) Maybe even restrict to cloth and leather too.

Good work there, I like playing monks though I always play them armed to the teeth.
Maze has no risk of alignment drop, it can only go up in there.
I admire people that actually role play their characters so far, where you don't use gold since that's something a monk would do.
Although I almost exclusively play L+ chars, I typically use whatever is available and don't shun from occasional chaotic acts if I benefit from those in the long run.
Double kudos for pulling off a paragon of order, it does require a lot of concessions and sacrifices.

Grats!

I wonder if it's possible to become a paragon of order ordering your pets to kill blink dogs/beggars etc for you (:

I like the suggestion to use only cloth / leather - that didn't even cross my mind. No elemental gauntlets or metal helms, possibly no bracers...

As for using tricks to kill blink dogs, it would be tempting, but for this run I wanted to be very "pure" :-) Didn't use the power of the chaos orbs either (except accidentally on D:48 where I learned that the air orb will summon an elemental for you - so I guess I did have a companion after all lol).

Could try a vegan monk, no leather, no potions of troll blood, as well as no corpses etc

Whoa, that wouldn't leave much left for satiation. Rations, bread, cake, sweets, herbs, potions, scrolls and prayers?

Will maybe have to run for the big room.

Iron rations are made of meat, farmer can make them from corpses AFAIK, so big rations only :3

Of course, how stupid of me. I think Large rations might also contain animal.
