Alignment Problems

How does the game decide what alignment the DT altar will spawn as?
I assumed it was whatever alignment you arrived with, but I don't think that's the case.

If you are lawful when first arriving to DT, the altar will be lawful.
If you are chaotic or neutral when first arriving to DT, altar will be neutral.
