I managed a Mist Elf. I actually wasn't all too bad. I hadn't ever made one past Dwarftown before. Healer was definitely an excellent choice for class. I started with the Heir gift for some actual starting PV. I had an alter above the Bigroom which got me crowned with Robes of Resistance and Fire Immunity. Definitely the best of the possibilities. Having herbalism allowed me to get to 15 To (over my cap 13) was super nice + the To from the Robes. Healer's speedy healing helped make up for the mist elf deficiencies.
Got teleportis from an early pool but I had left a blink dog on a higher level so quickly remedied that. I like it - a lot so I didn't drink from any more pools. Teleportis allowed me to dodge most of the early traps in the game as well as do the mino maze.
I did the pyramid, then the graveyard (robbing all skeletons and zombies to get into the Thieves Guild) I killed the druid to get Frost Bolts. Went to the Lake, got the RotHK. Went to slay the Wyrm with a combination of Big Punch and Frost bolts. On the top level there was a room of dwarven chaos knights who were kind enough to drop eternium gear to bring me from 20ish PV to 40ish. Excellent. Wyrm was kind of a push over, got scared after a few Frost bolts, drank an invis potion and dived in. Managed to kill him. I got teleportis and water breathing corruptions as a gift. After this point I switched to a Whip of Slaughtering that I had found in Dark Forge. Whips are awesome! I used it the rest of the game.
Then I quickly dove to get the water orb and the kitty ring before I did something stupid. I dove to the greater vault - undead. Thought I could get the closest artifact, ended up with some aging and heavy stat loss in the To department which was scary all for a pile of gold - artifact was in the next room over but turns out it was worthless (from the endgame screen). Then I didn't exactly know what to do so but had a book of magic map so at level 22 I did the Mino Maze. A worm sprouting off my body set of a fire trap that destroyed a girdle of giant strength I had found in DH2. Just before the emperor too! Killed him with some frost bolts and he died I think too easily. I ate his body - yum. His spare artifact was Protector. In the end I used my whip and this instead of the Axe because I would take sooo many more hits with the Axe. I never had enough holy water this entire game so I didn't actually use 4 of the gain attribute potions.
Did the air temple and the earth temple fairly easily. I think I might have used the Axe on the ASB. Yugalash summoned nothing at all which was nice. I finally leveled up enough to get climbing to 100.
I did the library for the tome and it's a good thing I did because I ended up using all my corruption removal. I also got Acid Ball and Acid Bolt both of which were fairly important on D50.
I almost, just one monster between me and him, forgot to change my armor for battling Nurgy. That would have been one hell of a stupid death. I took a few hits of his death ray but prayed each time until I threw one PoCC and a cursed !oInvis and meleed him.
D50 wasn't too bad at first. I always clear it because I think the wands + monsters is rather scummy. I had cleared the first set of balors balors. Then was bringing out next one by one when I noticed something was wrong. I usually back and hit, kite them until they die taking just a few hits. It wasn't working. I look at my corruptions - stiff muscles! By the time I noticed It was too high up to clear and I had several more balors to clear including Fisty. I never trained missiles and had no good ones anyway (I told a baby dragon about his mommy after D50.) Acid Bolts and acid ball on coward and the acid blood corruption just barely allowed me to scrape by without turning into a purple J (I had gotten down to M before Fisty).
Fisty and the Minotaur emperor both panicked before death which in turn made them easier to take down. Is it just me or should a few monsters never panic especially those two. I also think all lesser undead shouldn't panic unless you have the intrinsic birth.
However, in the end, I did manage to win. I told a dragon bout his mom, helped a white unicorn and he helped me, and left victorious.
