Just been playing a little with a chaos knight ... generally not a very lucky guy, starting with decaying tissues and stiff muscles. However, he started illiterate with learning 9, but just found and ate a dark sage corpse. So I tool a closer look at his scrolls and stuff and thought about reading one of his books, when I suddenly realized that his learning score has dropped to 1. Anybody got a clue how that could have happened? I didn't realize anything extraordinary... just dove through the UD and made a couple levels, but I am absolutely sure that his learing was still at 9 when he did the healer quest.

Name: Error Race: male Ratling Class: Chaos Knight
Eye color: red Hair color: gray Complexion: brown
Height: 5'2" Weight: 143 pounds
Age: 14 (young)
Star sign: Candle Birthday: 17/Candle (day 287 of the year)

YOUR HISTORY:
Your mother died in tortured childbirth and you were raised by your
father. He always resented you for her death, and your stepmother hated
you lividly.
You were a selfish child, demanding that your every whim be met and
throwing fits when it was denied.
Your youth was spent in strict servitude to the local church. You
resented each command and order, and took every opportunity you could to
defile their sacred relics.
As a young adult you became initiated into a local cult, performing
vile rites and taking part in dark orgies of sin. You reveled in this
worship of chaos, and accepted it as core to your being.
At the age of 14 you burned all ties to your past, and danced upon
the corpses of those who had wronged you. Bathed in their blood you became
a Chaos Knight.

Getting healing from Kranf Niest drops learning 1d3, so that's a possibility.

Do you have the apish corruption? That drops learning, but then I thought CK could only get that as like the last corruption or something.

Hmmm, I just made a complete log file and it says that the learning score was dropped by just 3 points, so it seems that it's just my memory playing tricks on me and the Knarf Niest drop. Thanks for the info anyway!

By the way, getting surrounded by spiders in the big room with such a slow char is HORRIBLE! Had to use my complete arsenal of options including all prayers to get out of there x-D

Well, my unlucky guy did rather well untill he was slaughtered by greater claw bugs on DH2. Killed three of them with a wand of fireballs, then I ran out of offensive ressources. I had one source of teleportation from a wand of wonder, but sadly in the room with the stairs yet another greater claw bug was waiting to finish me off... and I am quite sure that their intrinsics might have changed. I was wearing a ring of invisibility and they were all attacking me anyway. Also they were able to follow me through darkness without a problem. Gonna try to confirm this at the next opportunity, for ADOM wiki provides different information.

i thought greater claw bugs could see invis...it was changed to prevent people from raiding the claw bug temple with invis and tp. also no idea about your learning drop!!
2 of my worse corruptions are stiff muscles and decaying tissues!! only beaten by unholy aura, poison hands & mana battery...
i think it is mathematically impossible for someone to win with 4 of these 5 corruptions at the start of the game but someone needs to formally prove it :)

Actually my char was doing really well. He had more than 30 points of PV and more than 200 HP. Also he had got a backup blink dog corpse, so he could have tried some pools to save khelly and eventually get rid of those starting corruptions. Sadly I just forgot to grab the wand of teleportation after doing Griffyard and the Pyramid. With the wand I could have retreated quite easily. But I thought that one on-demand-casting of teleport together with invisibility would be enough for the DHs... well, bad luck.

Greater claw bugs and killer bugs were always able to see invis and through darkness IIRC.

Edit: fixed both on the wiki. Not sure where this info originated.

People have done more impossible things with ADOM and gotten away with it :p

Sounds like a challenge game to me. A really awful one and painful one. The trick would be rolling the character though.

Personally I've started with poison hands then when I was crowned later I got mana battery (that was never removed) and an item which made me unholy and went on to win... but that was different.

Of those corruptions the one I think would least like is decaying tissues. Health is an important resource for me as I play rather reckless, only getting half regen plus all the other negatives really puts on a damper on things for me.
