Exploding staircase

Are exploding staircases a thing? I had a character last night decend and explode like a booby trap. Fairly nasty if it's a thing now as it seems avoidable and undetectable. Otherwise maybe time for a bug report?

There are no exploding staircases. Here are a couple possibilities:
-a fire vortex exploded on its turn when you descended.
-a monster stepped on a fireball trap near the stairs when you descended.

Could have been a vortex though from what i remember the explosion seemed to centre on my character. I don't remember a vortex being there nor another monster, but i don't remember all the messages, just the flash of red and a list of my destroyed equipment. The character eventually died to a lightning vortex in similar circumstances and i saw that before it exploded.

gut once encountered a lightningball staircase. :)

Happened to me once. The logged cause of death was a fire vortex. I'm pretty sure it's because they're usually faster than the character and get the first move when you descend.
