On the wiki page: http://ancardia.wikia.com/wiki/Assassin_prince
it states that "It is claimed that if the PC is an Assassin, the prince will give them the quest starting at level 30"
despite all my searching through guidebooks and forum posts
I haven't found any source verifying this

Can anybody confirm whether this is true or not?

I seem to remember getting the quest earlier as assassin though I'm uncertain if it was indeed lvl 30 or maybe 35.
I guess there's one way to find out.

By the time you've got Needle you're likely to be fairly high levelled anyway. I was curious about this with my assassin win but unfortunately I'd killed him long, long before. He didn't show me respect by letting me join the assassin's guild so what did he expect? Also I didn't want to have to trek out of the CoC after Mr. Waador's quest, and obviously wasn't going for an ultra.

It would be nice if the Assassin Prince had some special features for Assassins - surely a close-knit guild such as this would welcome a new member... once they prove themselves. A hit on some tough-ish NPC with a useful but not gamebreaking reward perhaps - can't think of any skills assassins lack, but perhaps a cloak of invisibility or similar?

I also have memories about an assassin receving the quest way before lvl 45, but like Blasphemous I'm not entirely sure...

It seems assassins, despite being an excellent class, don't get played much. Would be awesome to see a statistical breakdown of which classes get played most or least, by %s or raw numbers.

I just assumed with anything related to ADOM, "provided I'm not horribly massacred" was just implied. :)

So, one interesting difference so far is that all the assassins, master assassins, and dopplegangers are actually generated as "peaceful" for assassin classes. It makes entering the assassin's guild much easier. The assassin prince just says the same line "no work for you" though.

I'll update again after I kill Barney.

Well, it took me a little longer than I thought it would, but I can confirm it is true. (See attached image)

I was actually gaining levels too quickly, so after the ToEF I skipped the other tunnels and dove straight to the BDC, descending as quickly as possible. It's at this point I have to say that Assassins are probably the most powerful melee class in the game. I've been using Serpent's Bite since I got precrowned with it on D:1, and I'm literally unstoppable with it. It's critical hit ability + assassin's critical hit ability + Stealth at 100 + invisibility + find weakness at 100 + backstabbing... I was literally 1 hitting blue wyrms and Ancient Blue Dragons. No seriously, it was that easy. None of them noticed me so they were all "neutral", I just walked up to them and bumped into them and they died. I killed a couple that way before I realized I was trying to *avoid* level gaining, and just walked my way to the bottom instead. (None of them noticed me)

The bottom level is different - all the dragons there are aware of the PC and actively tracked me, which made things a good deal more difficult. So I read a scroll of magic mapping, a scroll of detect monster, and then teleported next to Barney. I killed him with 3 hits and teleported back up.

Again, this game is insanely easy at this point. I one-hitted a Balor on the way back up. I don't think you're supposed to be able to do that...

Talked to the prince, he gave me the quest. I don't know if 30 in the lower limit since I was level 36 when I met him. Might want to try with a troll assassin and find out more. I'll (hopefully) be posting a UNE YaVP soon. :)

6 PoGAs from the Minotaur Emperor + 8 PoGAs from the Black Unicorn + 2 from the Dwarven Mystic + 1 from the Dwarven Elder + 5 or 6 random drops... (plus a couple of guaranteed potions of Strength, and random other potions of stat) well, if you don't have attributes in the upper 40s/50s by the ToEF, you're doing it wrong. :)

One thing this game gave me was the unique chance to experience a lot of it with the twin daggers.

They're incredibly powerful melee weapons, even better than the AotME for assassins. My base damage was around 125 per dagger, or 250 per round. (more on beserk mode) And with a grand mastery in daggers, they only cost 1000 energy to hit with both of them. But my base critical chance was 45% (5% +20% for FW + 20% for being an assassin), and I was invisible with 100% stealth and the stealthy talent and high Dx, which meant that I ended up backstabbing about 95% of the monsters I fought. Backstabbing raises my critical chance to 70% and has a 5x damage multiplier for Assassins wielding daggers. Long story short, I 1-hitted almost every monster I fought, and almost 1-hitted Fisty. (it took 2 hits because he somehow had a tiny amount of HP left after the first blow)

The reason for this is almost every first attack I made was a backstab, and with a 70% critical chance, I had a 91% chance that at least one of my daggers would do a critical hit. If both my daggers got critical hits on the backstab (49% chance, or this happened about half the time), they got a 10x (2x damage for critical x 5 for backstabbing with a dagger) damage multiplier and did ~2500 damage. If only 1 dagger got a critical (91%-49% chance = this happened 42% of the time), they would do ~1875 damage. If neither dagger got a critical (only 9% chance), that's still ~1250 damage.
