I am playing a lvl 26 wizard with climbing at 100 and wi of 39 , what are my chances of descending into the rift without falling? I dont have courage, and i dont think i can get it (I think my first kill was a raider) Im playing release 49.

I had about 20 willpower and climbing at 100 (but had courage) and was able to go down without falling. Some of it is just random luck but I think you have good odds with those stats.

Courage has no impact.
Wear Ankh and preferably two blessed rings of luck.
You should be fine but there's always a chance to slip and fall.
I'm not sure about Dx but it might factor into successful climb somehow.

Does encumbrance matter?
Do the various corruptions about character weight matter?
Does a blessed climbing set help?

Don't bring anything you're too attached to, basically.

I still fell with climbing at 100, wi 39 crowned. i am now stuck in the library, I waited 4000 turns and still didnt get the Woerd tome - does chatting with the ghost librarian simply reset the counter to a random interval, or does it increase the interval as a penalty?

I had no luck getting the tome when I visited also. Waited over 2,000 turns, chatted. Nothing. Waited over 3,000 turns, chatted. Nothing. Left. In hindsight I wished I had killed him before departing for his insolence. I think the formula that worked previously in other versions has been changed somehow.

I am going to try leaving the library and re-entering , then waiting 4k turns and see if i get it.

You need Stealth at 100 the first time you chat him and not have babbling mouth corruption. Some characters are also inherently screwed.

Not having something like everburning torch equipped is recommended too.

I once accidentally refused the quest and the librarian said something like "Fine. I have all the time to wait for someone else."
But, after 2k turns, I talked to the librarian again and was asked to deliver the tome as if nothing happened.

i never got it. i went back and waited 4k turns,nothing. Diving to d:50 now, came across a greater undead vault, tried clearing it by the 12 Emperor liches proved too much. ran out of there and am knocking on the door of the mana temple.
