Continuing in the theme of Lord of the Rings based characters, I decided to make Samwise, the hurthling farmer. Now, I've always felt that due to easy access to herbs, farmers aren't nearly as hard as they're often made out to be. This game worked out to be extremely easy, but not particularly because of the early herbs (which certainly didn't hurt), but simply because of a string of unbelievable luck.

Samwise started with 5 herb seeds, which is pretty sweet. I did the first couple of levels in the ID until my gardening was up a bit, then I made myself a herb garden in the VD and worked on morgia, pepper petals, and moss. I found an altar on VD4, so I changed the growth pattern on my herbs so that I ended up with four quasi-stable bushes giving me stoma, morgia, and moss. Farmed some stoma and got precrowned with Hammerhead. Saved Yrrigs to get healing, then killed Jharod for the stethoscope. Found 7lbs in the Puppy Cave. Cleared the UD, then went to CoC. Pacified the Big Room and gathered enough stoma for a second precrown--Protector, very nice. Visited Dwarftown, (caveman as random monster) then had to run back to Pyramid since I was level 16 already (farmers level really fast, apparently). Did Griffyard. Went back to DT. Descend to D11: You feel excited. You feel a surge of power. Ok-Luth, the dark orc, picks up the shining silver bracers... Ran through DH and cleared down to D16, left Khelly alive and started back on. On D15, an orc scorcher dropped a glowing wand--which carried 6 wishes. AoLS, Find Weakness, Concentration. Saved the rest. Cleared Darkforge--found mace of destruction, sword of sharpness, and 2H eternium sword of mayhem, and some white dragon scale mail. Wasn't sure what to do at this point, so I figured I'd do the ToEF. Found a RoDS on the ground on the first floor. Blinded the ACW and killed him in melee. Got first corruption--sulphur breath.

On my way back from dropping off the ACW corpse, I was attacked by a giant boar who dropped a skull. I also had a scroll of danger and wand of monster creation already. Got the RoTHK, cleared Water Temple, went down to Casino (scorched spear in the shop), then took the quick escape, fed the ratling, did Gaab'Baay's quests, got crowned lawful (Long Sting and =lightning). Cleared the Air and Earth Temples without trouble. In the Mana Temple I accidentally poisoned 160 potions with poison hands. Oh well. Only things that were lost that I was really upset about were about 10 PoUH (which I didn't end up needing). Cleared BDC, killed AKW, cleared Bug Temple, killed Filk, killed emperor moloch with slaying ammo, got ToRR, teleported my way down to D49, used pot of uselessness (got obsidian quarrel of uselessness... well, you can't win them all). Teleported to portal on D50. Used remaining wishes on speed. Killed Andor in melee with ToRR and won the game.

[edit]Next will either be Meriadoc, hurthling fighter or Aragon, human ranger I think.

Nice win. I think that the Bracers of War are totally broken - if you find them, you almost cannot die.

Just a note: I think (am fairly sure) that crowning is not counted as a divine intervention. Pre/postcrownings probably are.

I think you're right. I think the two outstanding prayers were both to cure stunning in the Casino :D
