Finally, i managed to win with a thief. after nearly 2 months and around 30 failed attempts!
as per my strategy with classes who have 'bad' crowning gifts and skill sets for the early/mid game, i decided to try a precrowning into a crowning atthe 1st altar i could find....the downstairs to the UD were in the next room to the upstairs, so i quickly found the WP blanket and locked the door connecting the 2 rooms to the rest of the lvl allowing safe access to UD whenever i wanted. i took the lawful healer quest and went str8 to the VD where i scouted all the lvls and generated not1, not 2 but 3 altars...all neutral. i decided to precrown at the lowest room altar after saving the carpenter...when i ran into an ogre magus. oops, my 1st near death experience of the game! i had to pray to stay alive and scampered away and locked the path to the exit. plan changed...lets kill jharod, which i did w/o loosing N status (went down to NC) when i realised...i forgot to take the chaotic version of the quest .....neways, after some grinding i was rewarded with the median utility artifact as per the forum wyrmlance :) didnt look back from there....after some more grinding, i got crowned with fire immunity (yay) and whirlwind (booo....hissss).
neways descended to UD where the 1st lvl had herbs with water conviniently blocking the room with morgia/moss and other room....some more grinding later my To was up from 16 to 26!! the rest of the UD was U indeed and i headed to the HMV and then to CoC. i followed my usual strategy of doing all thundy quests and pyramid when i was ready (though for some reason i was getting sick a lot...this never usually happens). after my last quest, i went to the early game caves and cleared everything. then the graveyard where my 3rd dig was an emperor lich...i somehow managed to scramble out of that situation. here i made my 2nd mistake.....i had mistakenly sold my AMW to the leggot and didnt want to rebuy it and i wasnt lvl 18 yet to be able to steal it...so i stole it the old fashion way by tping out...when i realised i had sold all my BD corpses to him. so i returned hoping no1 had picked it up. ofc i had made him overpowered and was not gonna risk getting 2 melle with him. after a lot of dancing around him and killing all his minions the sad result was that he had indeed picked all of them up...or mayb they rotted away, who knows.
my next tryst with death came in darkforge...apperently wyrmlance at lvl 9 and 21 str doesnt cut it for killing the golems w/o MUCH effort..neways i had a crown of regen and blessed knife of endurance and that is what it came done to...endurance. there was a time when one of these golems got my hp down to 1 and i was bleeding....pray..used up all my 18 blessed spenseweed but got the crown, access to the weapon cache (which didnt improve my inventory) and the armour cache (which gave my WDSM). also, i lost my tp control :mad: (i had a rind of tp control which i had to wear till d45 where i got a corspe from a BD generated in a mixed tension room, i kid you not)
neways, i decided to go get the phail and do the IQD quests. the greater vault was a red dragon vault (convenient). drakeling crowned with fire immunity, weilding a wrymlance, moving at 200+ speed vs dragons = gamegasm. neways the artifacts were......meh. emperors girdle (now i had crown of regen, knife of endurance, bracers of regen, celestrix and amulet of rapid healing). also, perions which was a marginal improvement on my WDSM. neways i got 4 points of str from all the corpses i got and 2 more from the icequeen for her 2nd quest so i wont complain...also, i got a WoW with 2 charges. 1st wish = GoGS, 2nd wish and 3rd wish lost cause the wand was cursed :mad: (will remeber that this is a thing). next the fire temple...again drakeling with 4 million odd sources of regen = Victory. next descend to the lower lvls of CoC....everything done and i reach the guardian when it suddenly dawns on me that i forgot to do the ToTHKs. neways bypass him using tp (ring of tp control saves the day) and descend....reach the casino and get some decent gear and descend futher to d32 where....i accidently take the upstairs zzzzz....
now i am really mad. go do the hk where i get a potion shop which i loot and even do the library (the crash destroys my GoGS and gauntlets of St +7) do the librarian quests, deliver the tome, descend back in the CoC, kill the gaurding by saccing him at the altar generated on his lvl (apparently that drops alignment...mine went donw from N= to N-), descend further...bypass the catlord (ive killed more than 15 cats...so no ty), my 1st GV in the CoC is a GGV with...wait for it Vanquisher !!!!!!!! good bye wyrmlance, hello vanquisher...i kill all the giants with it and get its lvl upto 8 on that very lvl...neways, descend further down....
air temple and earth temple are easy...mana temple, i decide to melle nuuraagwaarn and my 2nd to last hit gets him to 10 hp and i stun him accidently and he staggers away to the middle of his room :mad: i have to kill every1 to try to get him....but i think some1 else already killed him cause i found the orb lying on the groun.....oh well. my last life threatning moment came when i was eating while being very hungry, strained!, berserk with vanquisher equipped when a ghost kind tried to him me and missed....else it was sweet dreams dear drakeling!!!
d50 was a blast. i had a threat room of earth elementals (betr than GEE, i can assure you) i couldnt help but use slow monster for extra exp. ofc this stupid thief found the secret wall guarding the middle room...but luckily stealth = 100 + very stealthy meant no1 noticed and i quickly made a door, closed it and locked it! neways, while going up, on d47 with speed = 50, another ghost kind attacked me through the wall while i was on berserk with Vanq and missed.
other than that, i ascended, did the chaotic unicorn quest drank all my stat potions, cured all my corruption with my ver last ?oCC (also, the white unicorn gave me lvl 50)...did ring dipping to try to got RoDS....12 rings of clod resistance dipped into my 1 and only !oEx gave me an ordinary rind which was a RoDS cause i had identified damage, slaying and fire. blessed it and used it in terinyo for a cute dog (this as per norm didnt show up on my achievement log), complete the lawiethon thief quest for completion and left the drakalor chain and my 1st thief who closed the gate. good day/night.
